李提摩太在華教育活動和教育思想研究

【摘要】: 傳教士本來的使命是傳播基督教,但這些受過西方教育的傳教士,在中國開展自己的歷史使命的時(shí)候,都自覺或不自覺地對中國的教育產(chǎn)生了濃厚的興趣他們在把西方宗教文化帶到中國來的同時(shí),也帶來了西方先進(jìn)的教育制度,科技文化知識,促進(jìn)了中國教育的近代化和中西文化交流。在晚清時(shí)期的思想解放和文化傳播中,涌現(xiàn)出了很多廣為人知的傳教士,李提摩太就是其中非常知名的一位。作為一名傳教士、學(xué)者和政客,他賑濟(jì)災(zāi)荒、救濟(jì)災(zāi)民;他辦報(bào)、辦學(xué)、著書立說,翻譯了很多西方書籍;結(jié)識并且影響了許多中國上層官員;他主持的廣學(xué)會,出版了包括《萬國公報(bào)》在內(nèi)的十幾種報(bào)刊、兩千余種書籍和小冊子,也成為當(dāng)時(shí)中國規(guī)模較大的出版機(jī)構(gòu)之一。通過這些出版物,先進(jìn)的思想逐步得到中國開明知識分子的關(guān)注和認(rèn)可,也得到了諸多官員的支持,特別是其中一些有關(guān)教育書籍和文章,更是對近代中國的教育改革產(chǎn)生了深遠(yuǎn)的影響。 李提摩太創(chuàng)立的山西大學(xué)堂,較早的引進(jìn)和傳播了西方先進(jìn)的科學(xué)技術(shù)和學(xué)術(shù)思想,點(diǎn)燃了中國近代科學(xué)文明之火,對于近代學(xué)制改革和新學(xué)體系的建設(shè)具有較大影響。本文通過分析李提摩太由“傳教士”到“傳教士教育家”的轉(zhuǎn)變和他相關(guān)的教育實(shí)踐活動,來展開深入的探討,并且闡述了李提摩太的教育活動和教育思想對當(dāng)時(shí)中國社會所產(chǎn)生的影響。
[Abstract]:The mission of the missionaries was to spread Christianity, but these Western-educated missionaries, when they were carrying out their historical mission in China, They have either consciously or unconsciously taken a keen interest in China's education. While bringing Western religious culture to China, they have also brought advanced Western educational systems, scientific and technological cultural knowledge. To promote the modernization of Chinese education and cultural exchanges between China and the West. In the emancipation of ideology and the spread of culture in the late Qing Dynasty, there emerged many well-known missionaries, among whom Timothy Li was a very famous one. As a missionary, scholar and politician, he helped the victims of famine; he ran newspapers, ran schools, wrote books, translated many western books, met and influenced many senior Chinese officials; and he presided over a wide society. It published more than a dozen newspapers, more than 2,000 books and pamphlets, including the Universal Communique, and became one of the larger publishing institutions in China at that time. Through these publications, advanced ideas have gradually gained the attention and approval of enlightened intellectuals in China, as well as the support of many officials, especially some of the books and articles on education. It also had a profound influence on the educational reform in modern China. The Shanxi University School founded by Li Timothy introduced and disseminated the advanced western science and technology and academic thought, ignited the fire of Chinese modern scientific civilization, and had great influence on the reform of modern school system and the construction of new learning system. By analyzing the change from "missionary" to "missionary educator" and his related educational practice, this paper makes a deep discussion on the transformation of Li Timothy from "missionary" to "missionary educator". It also expounds the influence of Li Timothy's educational activities and educational thoughts on Chinese society at that time.
