蔡元培與北京大學法科存廢之爭

【摘要】:民國新立,在政制急速調(diào)整之下,大學學制亦變動不居,反映了國人再造大學迫切而游移不定的心態(tài)。1917年,主持北京大學的蔡元培決定停辦法科,只保留文、理兩科。此舉遭致各方強烈反對,甚至激起學潮,并引發(fā)一場波及海內(nèi)外的大討論。學理與技術(shù)能否并存,應(yīng)注重學理、專事學問,抑或務(wù)求實用、經(jīng)世致用?分科應(yīng)求全務(wù)廣、綜合共通,還是有所取舍、學術(shù)各為建制?這些問題均在討論之列。究其根源,蔡元培的思想根植于歐洲中世紀以來的大學學術(shù)自由價值觀,以研究為再造大學之急務(wù),以爭取學術(shù)自由及"為學問而學問"為旨趣,創(chuàng)生新文化與造成新學風,以引領(lǐng)中國現(xiàn)代社會發(fā)展。同時,學術(shù)分校也屬因應(yīng)社會紛爭策略上的考慮。
[Abstract]:In 1917, Cai Yuanpei, who presided over Peking University, decided to suspend the study of law, retaining only two subjects, namely, the arts and science, as a result of the rapid adjustment of the political system and the change in the academic structure of the university, reflecting the urgent and uncertain mentality of the Chinese people in rebuilding the university. The move was met with strong opposition and even sparked a wave of learning, and triggered a big debate at home and abroad. Can there be co-existence of academic theory and technology, should we pay attention to academic theory, specialize in learning, or try to be practical and practical? Should the division seek a wide range of services, comprehensive and common, or a trade-off, academic institutions? These questions are all under discussion. Looking into the root causes, Cai Yuanpei's thoughts are rooted in the values of academic freedom in universities since the Middle Ages in Europe, the urgent task of rebuilding universities is research, the aim is to strive for academic freedom and "learning for learning", to create a new culture and to create a new style of study. In order to lead the development of modern Chinese society. At the same time, the academic branch also belongs to the strategic consideration of coping with social disputes.
