本文旨在研究維多利亞時期新大學(xué)擴(kuò)展運動對英國高等教育現(xiàn)代化的貢獻(xiàn)。維多利亞時期的英國社會經(jīng)歷多方面的變革。在教育領(lǐng)域的一項變革吸引了眾多學(xué)者的關(guān)注,即新大學(xué)擴(kuò)運動。學(xué)者們從不同的角度對該運動進(jìn)行了研究分析。然而學(xué)者們在新大學(xué)對高等教育現(xiàn)代化的貢獻(xiàn)上看法不一。有些學(xué)者認(rèn)為該運動對英國高等教育的現(xiàn)代化有著重要的促進(jìn)作用;然而,有些學(xué)者認(rèn)為新大學(xué)并沒有促進(jìn)英國高等教育的現(xiàn)代化反而加強(qiáng)了英國教育的保守傳統(tǒng),因為新大學(xué)在發(fā)展過程中逐漸偏離的最初的理念,被牛津劍橋的傳統(tǒng)理念所同化。通過相關(guān)的文獻(xiàn)研究,本文作者認(rèn)為,19世紀(jì)建立的新大學(xué)對英國高等現(xiàn)代化的進(jìn)程有著重要的促進(jìn)作用,主要表現(xiàn)在以下三個方面:首先,新大學(xué)擴(kuò)展運動加速了英國高等教育大眾化的過程。19世紀(jì)之前的幾個世紀(jì)里,英國高等教育為牛橋所壟斷。由于多種原因只有貴族,上層階級,以及具有英國國教信仰的男性公民才能進(jìn)入這兩所學(xué)校學(xué)習(xí)。這種不公平的規(guī)條將其它社會背景的公民拒之門外。隨著資本主義,宗教運動發(fā)展,以及婦女意識的提高,傳統(tǒng)大學(xué)已經(jīng)無法滿足社會各階層及群體教育機(jī)會擴(kuò)大的要求。新大學(xué)在這種情況下應(yīng)運而生。這些新大學(xué)摒棄了傳統(tǒng)大學(xué)對階層,宗教,...
