伊麗莎白·蓋斯凱爾的《南方與北方》刻畫了許多有血有肉、命運多舛的女性形象。有人認為她是男權主義的支持者,也有人認為她是支持女性獨立的作家。小說《南方與北方》是她寫作生涯中期的作品,是她的代表作之一,論文是對這部小說的女性主義解讀。論文首先著重分析小說中的女性人物所受到的肉體創(chuàng)傷,包括最終甚至失去生命的悲慘遭遇。同時也分析處于男性世界中的年輕貌美的女主人公遭受到的精神折磨和痛苦。她被謠言中傷,被代表男性權威的警察盤問,這一切都給她精神上帶來巨大的壓力。最后分析女主人公對男權社會的反抗,進而成長為一位獨立的女性。通過此文揭示在現(xiàn)代社會,男女兩性的和諧對構建和諧社會有重要意義。
