英漢水的概念隱喻的對(duì)比研究
[Abstract]:People began to study metaphor more than 2000 years ago. The traditional metaphorical view regards metaphor as the most basic rhetorical method, which is used to modify and beautify the words in literary works. Contemporary metaphor theory holds that metaphor is not only a common linguistic phenomenon, but also a way of thinking and cognition. As a concise form of language, metaphor and human activities interact. Water is the source of life, nourishing and sustaining all life on earth. We often conceptualize water as a concrete thing, thus giving rise to many metaphorical expressions about water. Under the guidance of conceptual metaphor theory, this paper analyzes the metaphors of water in English and Chinese, probes into the similarities and differences between English and Chinese, and puts forward the reasons for the differences. This paper is divided into five chapters. In the first chapter, the author introduces the research background, research problems, research purposes and the structure of the thesis. The second chapter reviews the study of metaphor at home and abroad. The study of foreign metaphor mainly includes comparison theory, substitution theory, interaction theory, pragmatics theory and cognitive theory. The author also introduces other metaphors of water and their limitations. In the third chapter, the author elaborates the conceptual metaphor theory in detail, aiming at constructing the theoretical framework of the contrastive study. Chapter four is the core part of this paper, which mainly discusses the similarities and differences of conceptual metaphors of water. The author summarizes seven common conceptual metaphors for water in English and Chinese, three unique conceptual metaphors for water in English and four conceptual metaphors for water in Chinese. Based on the above findings, the author puts forward the reasons for the differences in conceptual metaphors of water in English and Chinese, that is, different geographical environments and different cultural types, in which different cultural types include different world views and different views of time. Finally, the author summarizes the results and importance of this study, puts forward the limitations of this paper and puts forward some valuable suggestions for future research. This paper demonstrates the cognitive metaphor theory and affirms the importance of cross-linguistic and cross-cultural metaphor studies. At the same time, the contrastive study of conceptual metaphors of water is beneficial to English and Chinese learners in learning water related words and expressions, and also provides an effective way for English and Chinese teachers to teach vocabulary.
