美國傳教士裨治文(Elijah Coleman Bridgman)于1832年5月在廣州創(chuàng)辦《中國叢報(bào)》(The Chinese Repository),于1851年12月終刊,這是外國人在華創(chuàng)辦的第一種英文報(bào)紙�！吨袊鴧矆�(bào)》詳細(xì)記錄第一次鴉片戰(zhàn)爭前后近20年中國政治、經(jīng)濟(jì)、歷史、文化、宗教和社會(huì)生活等情況,為當(dāng)時(shí)外國人及在華外國人了解中國社會(huì)狀況提供權(quán)威和詳盡的記錄�！吨袊鴧矆�(bào)》共20卷,其中9卷設(shè)有人物傳記欄目,該欄目對武則天、朱元璋等13位中國歷史人物進(jìn)行譯介,旨在以中國歷史人物的譯介為契機(jī),促進(jìn)外國讀者對傳記人物所處時(shí)代歷史的了解。在《中國叢報(bào)》的中國歷史人物傳記中,譯者節(jié)選武則天、司馬光、孔子和孟子等4位不同身份及不同寫作方式的歷史人物傳記進(jìn)行翻譯,確保翻譯文本的概括性和代表性。由于《中國叢報(bào)》的作者群體多為在華外國人,目標(biāo)讀者則是當(dāng)時(shí)的外國人及在華外國人,為幫助這些目標(biāo)讀者理解原文,原文作者常常對這些中國歷史人物的譯介文本進(jìn)行增加、刪減或做出其他調(diào)整,將這些中國歷史人物與有著相似經(jīng)歷的外國歷史人物進(jìn)行比較,這樣的文本在翻譯成中文時(shí)多不符合中國目標(biāo)讀者的閱讀習(xí)慣和文化背景,難...
