[Abstract]:After the July 7th incident in 1937, the War of Resistance broke out. Jiang Jieshi sent several telegrams to Hu Shi asking him to serve as ambassador to the United States. At a time of national peril, Hu Shi could not stand aside and agree to serve. After arriving in the United States, the "scholar ambassador" made use of his popularity and extensive contacts to travel around lecturing, attacking Japan's aggressive ambitions and demonstrating the resistance of the Chinese people.
