[Abstract]:Compared with the 2016 edition of the Global Initiative for chronic obstructive Pulmonary Disease (GOLD), the 2017 edition of GOLD is changing in several ways. One of the most important points is the definition of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The 2016 edition of GOLD defines chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as a common preventable and treatable disease characterized by persistent airflow restriction. Airflow limitation and progressive development are associated with chronic inflammatory responses to toxic particles or gases in the lungs and airways. Chronic inflammation leads to structural changes and small airway stenosis. The destruction of pulmonary parenchyma is also caused by inflammation, resulting in alveolar and small airway attachment loss.
