愛德華·P·瓊斯是繼托尼·莫里森之后在美國文壇崛起又一位風格獨特的非裔小說家。他的作品并不以種族問題為中心,而是著重描述非裔美國人的經(jīng)歷和生存現(xiàn)狀。《已知世界》是他的第一部長篇小說,也是他關于蓄奴制的代表作。作品從黑人奴隸主這一獨特的主題切入,通過人物刻畫和細節(jié)處理,深入挖掘了美國蓄奴制的復雜本質。 近年來,一些美國非裔小說家借用后現(xiàn)代寫作手法,以戲仿、借用、拼湊等拆解傳統(tǒng)奴隸小說敘述形式,突出對歷史作為話語建構的關注。部分當代小說家注重對歷史事件的文本呈現(xiàn)方式,力求在歷史真實和話語場域之間達到動態(tài)平衡。本文將從這個方面入手,結合西方歷史編撰理論關于歷史與文本關系的闡釋,研究《已知世界》對奴隸史的文本重構,從而探索當代奴隸敘事文本的發(fā)展趨勢。小說不僅探討了歷史與文本在當代奴隸敘述中的互動關系,而且打破了傳統(tǒng)的“大寫歷史”模式,聚焦于邊緣化奴隸群體的多樣化“小寫歷史”。借助新歷史主義和后現(xiàn)代歷史編撰理論,本文探尋了瓊斯重訪歷史的獨特模式,小說在挑戰(zhàn)傳統(tǒng)奴隸敘事模式的同時,也開創(chuàng)了新世紀奴隸敘事文本的發(fā)展方向。
