托馬斯·哈代的威塞克斯系列小說代表了19世紀(jì)末和20世紀(jì)初現(xiàn)實(shí)主義小說的最高成就。哈代的藝術(shù)創(chuàng)作以塑造有象征意義的自然背景見長,他作為文學(xué)巨匠深諳小說創(chuàng)作中背景的重要作用并且認(rèn)為社會(huì)背景和自然環(huán)境對(duì)人物性格的形成有重要作用。在哈代的小說中環(huán)境描寫和人物塑造相互交織,并且利用社會(huì)環(huán)境和自然環(huán)境背景來突出小說中的人物形象使人物與環(huán)境融為一體。換句話說,小說中人物活動(dòng)的背景環(huán)境和人物塑造有著同等的重要作用。哈代的作品中,除了大量自然描述這個(gè)特點(diǎn)外,另一個(gè)顯著特點(diǎn)就是哈代在其小說中大量出現(xiàn)的各具特色的女性形象。在哈代威塞克斯系列小說中,苔絲是處于社會(huì)轉(zhuǎn)型期內(nèi)并且最受讀者喜愛的女性形象。哈代認(rèn)為社會(huì)轉(zhuǎn)型期內(nèi)的歷史性的巨變不是進(jìn)步,反而代表著失望和遺憾。尤其對(duì)與自然有緊密聯(lián)系的女性來說,工業(yè)革命和現(xiàn)代化的生活方式都導(dǎo)致她們逐步的脫離自然。本文利用生態(tài)女性主義文學(xué)理論,結(jié)合生態(tài)女性主義原則從男性與女性關(guān)系,人類與自然關(guān)系兩方面來揭示哈代《德伯家的苔絲》中苔絲的悲劇根源。通過用生態(tài)女性主義理論分析苔絲的悲劇根源,讀者會(huì)初步掌握19世紀(jì)末20世紀(jì)初男性通過征服自然進(jìn)一步的控制女性帶來的社會(huì)上各種思想交匯...
