《蠅王》是諾貝爾文學獎得主威廉·戈爾丁的代表作。它以一群滯留在孤島上的英國男孩為例,探討了人類文明是如何墮落的。這部作品以其復雜深刻的內涵被評為二十世紀最具影響力的文學作品之一。本文嘗試運用系統(tǒng)功能語言學的理論對威廉·戈爾丁小說《蠅王》中的人際意義進行分析。人際意義反映了人們運用語言進行人際交往的本質。韓禮德在功能主義框架中區(qū)分了語言的三個元功能,并在小句層面確定了表達這三個元功能的獨立的語言資源。他提出人際意義主要是由語氣和情態(tài)系統(tǒng)實現(xiàn)的。20世紀70年代初以來,以系統(tǒng)功能語法為分析基礎的功能文體學蓬勃發(fā)展。這是因為功能文體學不但拓寬了文體學研究的視野和范圍,理論方面具有很強的系統(tǒng)性,而且強調了語言、語篇與社會語境的關系。功能文體學將文體視為“有動因的突出”。在文學作品中,某個突出的語言特征只要與作者整部作品意義的表達有密切的聯(lián)系,就可被視為“有動因的突出”。雖然國內外的眾多學者采用這一理論從功能角度對文學作品進行了大量的文體研究,但這些對文學作品文體的研究大多是從實現(xiàn)概念功能的及物性系統(tǒng)的理論角度出發(fā),而對于在語篇中同樣具有重要作用的人際功能沒有給予足夠的重視。小說《蠅王》是戈爾丁...
