約翰·福爾斯（John Fowles,1926-2005）被譽(yù)為“戰(zhàn)后英國(guó)最有才華、最嚴(yán)肅的小說(shuō)家”,“最偉大的當(dāng)代作家和后現(xiàn)代小說(shuō)家”。他的作品一向被奉為后現(xiàn)代主義文學(xué)的經(jīng)典范例。國(guó)外對(duì)福爾斯的小說(shuō)研究無(wú)論從數(shù)量還是質(zhì)量上來(lái)看,產(chǎn)量頗豐;可是國(guó)內(nèi)對(duì)福爾斯的小說(shuō)研究更多的集中在他的早期作品上,對(duì)于福爾斯80年代創(chuàng)作的最后一部小說(shuō)《幻想》很少提及。筆者在以往研究的基礎(chǔ)上,試圖挖掘《幻想》這部小說(shuō)作為玄學(xué)偵探小說(shuō)的顯著特點(diǎn)。本文首先分析福爾斯在作品中所套用的偵探小說(shuō)模式及其反常規(guī)的特點(diǎn),并進(jìn)一步證明它是一部玄學(xué)偵探小說(shuō);然后,通過(guò)對(duì)比《幻想》和福爾斯的另外一部短篇偵探小說(shuō)《迷》,總結(jié)福爾斯本人對(duì)玄學(xué)偵探小說(shuō)理論的特殊貢獻(xiàn);最后闡釋隱含在這部偽偵探小說(shuō)中的“玄學(xué)”因素:存在主義和女性主義觀念。根據(jù)以上的分析和研究,筆者得出結(jié)論,在《幻想》這部玄學(xué)偵探小說(shuō)中,福爾斯借用偵探小說(shuō)的模式探討其存在主義哲學(xué)思想及男女平等的社會(huì)理想,旨在用偵探小說(shuō)這只“舊瓶”裝入“新酒”。
