迷失的“伊甸園”——《伊甸園》與海明威的性別困惑

厄內(nèi)斯特·海明威（1899-1961）是美國有史以來最著名的作家之一,他以擅長硬朗、“男子漢”氣概的文風而著稱,善于形象地描寫男性的追求及人生態(tài)度�；蛟S是因為他所塑造的“硬漢”形象太深入人心,又或許是他本身所展示出來的男子漢形象已在公眾中形成定式,很多的評論家都給他冠以“不會描寫女性形象”抑或“更擅長描寫沒有女人的男性形象”的頭銜。有些小說評論家還說他對女性的人生追求和遭受的機遇完全冷漠無知,更有甚者控訴海明威對女性懷著愈演愈烈的敵視心理。然而,在“性別研究”理論的指導下,通過對海明威最后一部生前未發(fā)表的作品所塑造的人物特點的分析,本文作者發(fā)現(xiàn)：海明威對其時的性別問題有著很敏銳的覺悟。他不是個“大男子主義者”,相反他對女性的際遇是報以深切的同情的他還批判了男性的自私、懶惰和懦弱。在該部作品里,海明威表達了對在男性主宰的社會里女性角色的同情,同時也表達了對獨立、有頭腦、有思想的”新女性”的欣賞。此外,他能從女性觀點的角度出發(fā)去觀察事物。近期也有一些評論家較為客觀地重新審視了海明威筆下的女性形象,把這些女性分為：值得同情的女性和理想型女性。這些評論家認為海明威不是一個對女性世界麻木不仁的傲...
