[Abstract]:William Faulkner was one of the most famous southern writers in the 20 th century and won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1949. In his life, he wrote 19 novels and nearly 100 short stories, of which 15 and most of the short stories took place in the fictitious Yoknapatafa County. Faulkner was perplexed by the decline of the southern United States and deeply aware of the scapegoat mechanism of modern society. He repeatedly wrote about the scapegoat phenomenon. In the Light of August, "the Rose for Emily," Faulkner wrote. I die in the shape of a different image of the scapegoat. This paper will analyze Faulkner's three works from the aspects of race, class and family, and point out that the tragic roots of the protagonists are racial discrimination, class prejudice, family apathy, and they are struggling to resist. Struggle against a miserable fate, but still no help, only become race, class, weak family victims and scapegoats. Faulkner shows the traditional American southern society by shaping the image of scapegoat, and reveals the poison and destruction of southern traditional concept and culture to people. By analyzing the identity of the protagonist Chris Morse in Light of August, this paper points out that the ambiguity of his identity is the result of social pressure and racial discrimination, and ultimately leads to his death. That made him a victim of racist traditions; By analyzing the behavior and growing environment of Emily in the Rose for Emily, the author reveals the plight of the women born in the South of the United States, and reflects the oppression and mutilation of the patriarchal system and the southern lady view on women. Through the analysis of the time of my dying, the Benderlans probe into the tragic causes of the protagonist Dahl. Combined with the above analysis, this paper aims to reveal Faulkner's creative connotation and humanistic concern.
