【摘要】：Taboo一詞源于南太平洋湯加島人的土語,指“神圣的”、“不可接觸的”或“要極端注意的”人或事(包括語言)。若觸犯了某種禁忌,就會(huì)遭到懲罰,甚至殺身之禍。但禁忌現(xiàn)象并非湯加島所獨(dú)有,它普遍存在于世界上各個(gè)文化當(dāng)中,涉及范圍從個(gè)人到整個(gè)社會(huì)生活,非常廣泛。社會(huì)禁忌反映在語言中即語言禁忌。 大量的研究表明,語言和語言的使用深深根植于特定的社會(huì)文化之中,離開了語言產(chǎn)生和使用的社會(huì)文化語境和交際語境,就不可能對語言做出深刻而全面的解釋。禁忌語是一種語言現(xiàn)象,更是一種社會(huì)現(xiàn)象,同樣深深扎根于特定的社會(huì)文化中,是社會(huì)文化域的語言折射,受制于特定社會(huì)文化域的語言使用,它具有普遍性,也有文化特定性。對其研究必須放到具體的語境中,考慮其與交際參與者和場合等因素的相互關(guān)系和相互影響。 對于語言禁忌,在一定的文化中參與實(shí)際交際的人們會(huì)不約而同地采取“回避”態(tài)度,以免冒犯他人。由于其敏感性,禁忌語很久以來就是語言研究領(lǐng)域的一個(gè)禁區(qū),權(quán)威性的語言學(xué)史少有記載,語言學(xué)家們對此也少有問津或只是輕描淡寫,早期對禁忌語的研究只存在于人類學(xué)、民俗學(xué)和社會(huì)語言學(xué)中;在外語教學(xué)中也很少涉及。但禁忌語作為人類語言的一部分,與社會(huì)禁忌有著密切的聯(lián)系;有其存在的意義,能直接反映社會(huì)的發(fā)展變化,反映人們的價(jià)值觀念。 在跨文化交際日益頻繁和廣泛的今天,由于不同文化對在一定語境下什么是禁忌并不完全一致,如果對其缺乏了解或使用不當(dāng),就會(huì)產(chǎn)生誤解、沖突,甚至不可知的嚴(yán)重后果。另外,從歷史發(fā)展的角度來看,禁忌語,作為人類語言的一部分,隨人類社會(huì)的發(fā)展而不斷變化,以滿足人類交際的需要。隨著科學(xué)的發(fā)展,宇宙中的許多奧秘被揭開,禁忌語中封建迷信的成份大幅減少;同時(shí),隨人類物質(zhì)文明的發(fā)展,人們對精神文明的要求也在提高,使得禁忌語存在的諸多因素中禮貌的成份在相應(yīng)增加,犯忌通常被視為是違反禮貌原則的。禮貌是加強(qiáng)人際關(guān)系的普遍手段。但不同文化由于價(jià)值觀等的差異,對其有不同的評判準(zhǔn)則。加上習(xí)慣和民族中心主義的作用,在跨文化交際中,不同文化背景的人往往會(huì)遵守各自不同的禮貌準(zhǔn)則去理解對方或采取不同的禮貌手段以達(dá)到相同的交際目的,從
