“本文+動作動詞”漢英對比研究

在學術論文寫作中,有一種現(xiàn)象非常值得關注。為了使表達更顯客觀,很多的作者竭力避免使用第一人稱作為主語。使用文章本身作為主語是所有策略中比較普遍地一種。比如:“本文提出”、“本文探討了”以及“本文認為”等都屬于這種表達。在這種表達方式中,“本文”被用作句子的主語,謂語動詞是動作性動詞。一般來說,這些動作性動詞往往只用于描述人類的動作過程。可是,在以文章做主語的表達方式中,非生命主體似乎成為了動作的發(fā)出者。G. Low(1999)探討了這一問題。他發(fā)現(xiàn),在他指導的留學生中,有些人總習慣在論文的介紹部分使用this paper thinks這種表達。他本人對這種表達并不認同。他認為,文章作為一種非生命主體不具備思考能力,所以使用“認為”這樣的詞很不恰當。于是,他摘取學生論文中以this paper+動作性動詞的表達作為語料進行調(diào)查,檢測這些表達在以英語為母語的人群中的可接受程度。結(jié)果證明,以文章作為主語時,對動作性謂語動詞的選擇并非毫無限制。This paper argues/takes the view等均為可接受的表達方式。但是This paper thinks/believes/is ...
