“本文+動(dòng)作動(dòng)詞”漢英對(duì)比研究

在學(xué)術(shù)論文寫(xiě)作中,有一種現(xiàn)象非常值得關(guān)注。為了使表達(dá)更顯客觀,很多的作者竭力避免使用第一人稱(chēng)作為主語(yǔ)。使用文章本身作為主語(yǔ)是所有策略中比較普遍地一種。比如:“本文提出”、“本文探討了”以及“本文認(rèn)為”等都屬于這種表達(dá)。在這種表達(dá)方式中,“本文”被用作句子的主語(yǔ),謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞是動(dòng)作性動(dòng)詞。一般來(lái)說(shuō),這些動(dòng)作性動(dòng)詞往往只用于描述人類(lèi)的動(dòng)作過(guò)程?墒,在以文章做主語(yǔ)的表達(dá)方式中,非生命主體似乎成為了動(dòng)作的發(fā)出者。G. Low(1999)探討了這一問(wèn)題。他發(fā)現(xiàn),在他指導(dǎo)的留學(xué)生中,有些人總習(xí)慣在論文的介紹部分使用this paper thinks這種表達(dá)。他本人對(duì)這種表達(dá)并不認(rèn)同。他認(rèn)為,文章作為一種非生命主體不具備思考能力,所以使用“認(rèn)為”這樣的詞很不恰當(dāng)。于是,他摘取學(xué)生論文中以this paper+動(dòng)作性動(dòng)詞的表達(dá)作為語(yǔ)料進(jìn)行調(diào)查,檢測(cè)這些表達(dá)在以英語(yǔ)為母語(yǔ)的人群中的可接受程度。結(jié)果證明,以文章作為主語(yǔ)時(shí),對(duì)動(dòng)作性謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞的選擇并非毫無(wú)限制。This paper argues/takes the view等均為可接受的表達(dá)方式。但是This paper thinks/believes/is ...
