死亡,是每個(gè)個(gè)體都無(wú)法逃避的一種親身體驗(yàn),也是哲學(xué)與宗教領(lǐng)域一個(gè)永恒的話題。無(wú)論哪個(gè)民族,使用何種語(yǔ)言,都無(wú)法回避對(duì)死亡的關(guān)注與探討。漢語(yǔ)與英語(yǔ)作為世界上最為重要的兩種語(yǔ)言,在死亡的表達(dá)方式上雖然千差萬(wàn)別,但有一個(gè)非常鮮明的共同點(diǎn)：回避死亡字眼,多用委婉語(yǔ)表達(dá)死亡。據(jù)悉,在英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)言中死亡委婉語(yǔ)的表達(dá)方式達(dá)400多種(劉純豹,1993),而漢語(yǔ)相關(guān)的表達(dá)則接近480多種(張拱貴,1996)。這種數(shù)字上的巧合不僅說(shuō)明死亡委婉語(yǔ)是一種語(yǔ)言現(xiàn)象,也同時(shí)說(shuō)明死亡委婉語(yǔ)作為一種重要的社會(huì)文化現(xiàn)象而存在著。死亡委婉語(yǔ)的背后必定隱藏著重要的社會(huì)文化信息。 本研究圍繞著三個(gè)中心問(wèn)題展開(kāi)：1.漢英死亡委婉語(yǔ)各自有什么不同點(diǎn),以及造成這些差異的原因是什么；2.漢英死亡委婉語(yǔ)有哪些相似點(diǎn),促成這些相似的原因又是什么；3.漢英死亡委婉語(yǔ)的對(duì)比研究帶給漢英語(yǔ)言學(xué)習(xí)者以及跨文化交際者何種啟示。本研究的理論框架主要源于語(yǔ)言與文化的關(guān)系理論以及Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck的價(jià)值取向模式,所運(yùn)用的研究方法主要是對(duì)比分析與歸納總結(jié)。其中語(yǔ)料主要來(lái)源于張拱貴所著的《漢語(yǔ)委婉語(yǔ)詞典》,以及劉純豹所編的《英語(yǔ)委婉語(yǔ)詞典》。 研究發(fā)現(xiàn)：漢英死亡委婉語(yǔ)存在著眾多的差異性與共性。在研究過(guò)程中,筆者發(fā)現(xiàn)過(guò)去對(duì)委婉語(yǔ)的定義也存在著一些問(wèn)題與不足,如對(duì)辭格與語(yǔ)言或言語(yǔ)概念混淆,定義中存在一些再定義的術(shù)語(yǔ),定義外延過(guò)窄等問(wèn)題。本研究雖立足死亡委婉語(yǔ),但研究的內(nèi)容卻不僅僅局限于此,包含漢英社會(huì)方方面面的內(nèi)容,而這些研究結(jié)果對(duì)跨文化交際與語(yǔ)言學(xué)習(xí)者有一定的借鑒意義。最后,筆者指出了本研究的不足與局限性,為今后的研究提出了一些指導(dǎo)性的意見(jiàn)與參考。
