【摘要】：在斯泰倫的小說《蘇菲的選擇》中，整個女性群體在父權(quán)制社會中的困境在以蘇菲為代表的女性身上得以展現(xiàn)。因此，，對蘇菲悲劇命運的分析是研究斯泰倫作品時不可或缺的重要環(huán)節(jié)。 本文共分為五部分：第一部分為緒論，簡略介紹威廉·斯泰倫的生平和寫作特點，《蘇菲的選擇》的主要內(nèi)容，作品的研究狀況及女性主義的相關(guān)理論。第二部分分析作為女兒的蘇菲所受到的來自父母的影響，以及這些影響對其以后的悲劇人生所起的催化作用。第三部分主要從蘇菲同生命中兩個重要男人—猶太情人內(nèi)森和年輕作家斯汀格之間的兩性關(guān)系入手，闡釋了她在男女關(guān)系中所處的不公地位。第四部分則研究蘇菲因其母親的身份所遭受的種種磨難和心靈上的煎熬。第五部分是文章的結(jié)論。女兒愛人母親，許多女人都擁有的三重身份串連起了蘇菲作為女性痛苦的一生。作為女性，蘇菲的命運已注定不幸，而殘酷的戰(zhàn)爭讓她在不幸的深淵中越落越深。同時，不僅僅是蘇菲，小說中幾乎所有的女性都在這樣或那樣艱難的生存境遇中苦苦掙扎。戰(zhàn)爭可以結(jié)束，可以逃離，但男性桎梏的樊籠卻終生都難以掙脫。斯泰倫筆下女性人物“他者”的地位不僅使本就主題沉重的大屠殺小說蒙上一層更加凄愴的色調(diào)，也暗示了他對女性悲慘境遇所特有的關(guān)注和憂慮。
