現(xiàn)代主義文學持續(xù)了半個多世紀,不僅影響了整個歐洲,而且波及到了世界的許多地方。現(xiàn)代主義文學內(nèi)容非常廣泛,很難對其做出精確的界定。作為英美現(xiàn)代主義文學的重要部分,現(xiàn)代主義小說的主題、風格和創(chuàng)作技巧差異很大,任何對其定義、分類和詮釋的嘗試都極具挑戰(zhàn)性,也非常有價值。立足于主要現(xiàn)代主義小說家的優(yōu)秀作品以及相關(guān)的歷史、文化和文學批評資料,利用主題學研究的方法,本文對現(xiàn)代主義文學中經(jīng)常出現(xiàn)的五個重要主題,即異化、荒誕、救贖、新女性的意識和城市青年的成長,進行研究。主題學主要研究相同主題以及與主題密切相關(guān)的母題、情景、意象、套語等在不同國家和地區(qū)的發(fā)展變化和不同作家的處理方式。顯然,探討英美現(xiàn)代主義作家對上述五個主題不同的處理方式,不僅有助于理清現(xiàn)代主義小說的復雜現(xiàn)象及其成因,也有助于理解現(xiàn)代主小說與現(xiàn)代主義社會之間的復雜關(guān)系。有鑒于此,本文共分七章。第一章簡單介紹現(xiàn)代主義文學的歷史背景,并論述了主題學研究發(fā)展的歷史和研究方法,同時說明了論文的研究目標。第二章到第六章分別討論上述五個主題。每章分三個部分:主題的內(nèi)涵、主題所處的特殊歷史背景以及主題不同的表現(xiàn)層面。第二章從社會、自然、他人以及自我等四...
