翟理斯（1845-1935）,英國著名漢學家。畢生致力于介紹中華文明,他翻譯了大量中國文學作品,其推出的《笑林廣記》譯本是迄今為止外譯史上出現(xiàn)最早、翻譯篇目最多的節(jié)譯本,而對該譯本展開研究的文獻幾乎為零。18世紀后期起,西方文學作品中的中國形象一落千丈,西方對中國的批評越來越多,越來越尖銳,以致到了偏執(zhí)和不公正的程度,文學作品中處處存在著丑化中國形象的作品,而翟理斯筆下的中國卻是基于他在中國真實生活的基礎上刻畫的。因此本文在形象學視角的指導下分析翟理斯在其作品《笑林廣記》英譯本中對中國形象的重塑。形象學作為比較文學的一個重要領域,主要研究文學作品中的異國異族形象,探究文學作品中異國形象發(fā)生變化的諸多原因。文章按照形象學的研究方法,從文本內(nèi)部和外部分析展開,內(nèi)部分析包括詞匯、等級關系和故事情節(jié)三個層次;文本外部分析包括譯者所屬的社會集體想象和其信息的來源、對中國的態(tài)度和情感,指出《笑林廣記》英譯本中“他者”形象往往在詞匯、等級關系層面發(fā)生變異,譯者重塑“他者”形象的過程中很大程度上會受到其本國社會集體想象物和自身對于異國的想象、情感和態(tài)度的影響。本文分析了19世紀中國作為“他者”在西方人...
