【摘要】:五四運動時期(1917-1927),隨著新文化啟蒙思潮的推進,翻譯活動在我國達到新的高潮,此時的學者大都身兼兩職,既是文學創(chuàng)作者,也是翻譯家。由于渴望推翻舊的文化和文學,建立新文化、新文學,而傳統的中國文學不足以通過改革自救來實現新文化夢想,學者們把目光紛紛投向了英、法、俄及匈牙利、葡萄牙等國來尋求文學途徑,翻譯文學成為了聯系文藝和個人政治理想的橋梁。 茅盾(沈雁冰)是五四新文化運動時期身兼創(chuàng)作者和翻譯家雙重身份的一位代表,積極倡導新文學,成為新文化運動堅實的推動者和實踐者。1916年,茅盾開始正式發(fā)表翻譯作品,逐漸致力于世界弱小民族文學作品的翻譯,主張忠實于原作的翻譯,以《小說月報》等刊物為陣地,發(fā)表了一系列翻譯作品和譯學見解,成為著名的翻譯家和卓越的翻譯理論家。 本文以勒弗菲爾的操縱理論和加布里埃爾.A.阿爾蒙德的“政治文化”概念為指導,結合五四運動時期茅盾的文學翻譯活動,著眼于文學內部范疇和贊助人意識形態(tài)對翻譯的要求、譯者個人的意識形態(tài)對翻譯各方面的抉擇等諸多因素,探究了政治文化觀是如何影響五四運動時期的翻譯文學活動,指出了該特定時期翻譯文學活動中政治文化特征的各種表現形式。 首先,作者系統介紹了五四運動時期翻譯文學活動在各方面的具體表現:學者紛紛投入翻譯事業(yè),翻譯作品在數量和質量上得到前所未有的提升,讀者市場反應熱烈,翻譯方面的理論層出不窮,作者指出這些現象反映的是政治觀念驅動的文化和文藝。然后,作者引入“文學操縱”以及“政治文化”這兩個概念,從理論上分析了翻譯文學和政治文化之間必然的聯系。接著,作者從茅盾1917至1927五四運動這10年期間翻譯的文學作品著手,分析了茅盾翻譯活動的諸多特征,主要表現為:茅盾在“信、達、雅”傳統翻譯標準中堅持以“信”為中心的翻譯標準,講究單字翻譯正確、句調精神相仿的翻譯策略。分析發(fā)現茅盾的文化定位是趨政治性的,茅盾是帶著強烈的文學使命和責任感從事文學作品的翻譯工作的,其翻譯活動的各個階段是與社會的政治文化轉型息息相關的。在前面三章的基礎上,最后作者從意識形態(tài)、詩學和贊助人三個方面探討政治文化對茅盾翻譯活動的影響。意識形態(tài)的政治文化特征表現在茅盾堅持的翻譯原則上:茅盾認為文學翻譯帶有必定的目的性,翻譯是由不同意識形態(tài)糅合而產生的,是“神韻”兼具“形貌”的產物;詩學形態(tài)的政治文化特征表現為:在選材上,作者對于弱小民族現實主義文學作品的青睞。在文學語言上,表現為白話文在不同語言層次上的嘗試;贊助人方面,作者主要選取了《小說月報》和《文學周刊》(《文學旬刊》、《文學》)茅盾翻譯活動中所起的作用。包括其他種種雜志、期刊、報紙在內的出版物在翻譯目的,翻譯文學藝術性和大眾接受性的取舍,促使翻譯對于刊物主題響應這三方面反映著政治文化對翻譯活動的影響。
