從巴西食人主義看嚴復(fù)譯作《群學(xué)肄言》

【摘要】:嚴復(fù)是近代中國著名的翻譯家,翻譯理論家和啟蒙思想家,被譽為“近世介紹西學(xué)的第一人”(胡適)。以往學(xué)者對嚴復(fù)的翻譯研究主要集中于對“信達雅”的討論和《天演論》的譯本比較。除了“信達雅”翻譯標準之外,其他關(guān)于嚴復(fù)翻譯實踐的問題,比如文化觀和社會時代背景對其翻譯的影響,相關(guān)研究甚少!度簩W(xué)肄言》是嚴復(fù)最為著名的八大譯作之一,但對其中嚴復(fù)翻譯思想和翻譯特色的研究也非常少,目前絕大部分的研究成果也是從歷史學(xué)或文化思想史的角度入手。因此,從翻譯研究角度,深入分析《群學(xué)肄言》譯本,比較源語文本和目的語文本,探究嚴復(fù)操縱和改寫源語文本原因,為揭示和構(gòu)建嚴復(fù)的其他翻譯思想提供了新的可能。 本文作者受到巴西食人主義理論啟發(fā),試圖立足于中國殖民時期文化語境來解讀并闡釋《群學(xué)肄言》的翻譯實踐。通過分析嚴復(fù)的翻譯文化觀、歷史社會背景以及對源語文本的操縱改寫,力圖證明嚴復(fù)翻譯暗合食人主義翻譯。本文主要解決三個問題,即嚴復(fù)食人式翻譯的原因和特色,并比較嚴復(fù)食人式翻譯和巴西食人主義翻譯的區(qū)別。 作者首先介紹了巴西食人主義翻譯來源和傳統(tǒng),總結(jié)了食人主義翻譯策略和操作方式。食人主義翻譯采用了“吞食”和“汲取營養(yǎng)”的比喻,解放譯文,拒絕西方世界的文化殖民,主張凸顯第三世界國家的身份和文化傳統(tǒng)。 其次,,作者分析了嚴復(fù)翻譯暗合食人主義翻譯的原因。嚴復(fù)中西結(jié)合的翻譯文化觀使得他較容易接受西方的先進科學(xué)思想,而其翻譯觀中的功利主義因素則使得譯作帶有鮮明的實用性特點,即要能夠滿足目的語語境的文化需求。此外,由于當時的中國處于半封建半殖民地時期,所以嚴復(fù)的翻譯是西方先進文化知識和中國傳統(tǒng)思想結(jié)合的產(chǎn)物。 再次,作者以《群學(xué)肄言》為例,分析了其中的食人式翻譯特色。在譯者定位方面,嚴復(fù)在源語文本的選擇和翻譯規(guī)范上都是食人式的,即選擇強勢文化文本和摒棄絕對的忠實標準。嚴復(fù)的達旨術(shù)和“反叛”式翻譯具有“吞食”原文和“輸血”的食人式特點。在翻譯策略方面,嚴復(fù)和食人主義翻譯均采用了歸化策略。嚴復(fù)在《群學(xué)肄言》中采用加減、改、案、中西對比等策略,對原作形式和社會學(xué)思想內(nèi)容都進行了創(chuàng)造性的、食人式的調(diào)整。 最后,通過對比研究分析,作者發(fā)現(xiàn)嚴復(fù)食人式翻譯與巴西食人主義翻譯區(qū)別是在于對原文改寫的偏激度和動機不同。一方面,巴西翻譯學(xué)者們推崇的譯本是全新的雜合文本,“抹殺”原文,強調(diào)多元化,故譯本偏離源語文本程度較大,而《群學(xué)肄言》在整體上仍然非常忠實原文。另一方面,巴西食人主義翻譯的立足點是塑造其自身文化身份,而嚴復(fù)譯作是通過翻譯介紹西方科學(xué)思想來達到“救亡圖存”的目標。 本文在一定程度上拓展了對《群學(xué)肄言》的研究和理解,同時也為巴西食人翻譯理論提供在近代中國語境下的例證,對中國近代社會學(xué)傳播研究也有一定的借鑒意義。
[Abstract]:Yan Fu is a famous translator in modern China, translation theorists and thinkers, known as "the first person to introduce modern western" (Hu Shi). Previous studies on Yan Fu's translation mainly focus on the "XinDa Ya" < > tianyanlun discussed and compared. In addition to the XinDa and translation standards on Yan Fu's translation practice problems, such as the impact of cultural and social background of the translation, related researches are rare. The study of sociology "is one of Yan Fu's most famous eight translations, but the study of Yan Fu's translation thoughts and characteristics is also very small, most of the research is from the history of cultural or ideological point of view. This paper is mainly to solve three problems, namely the causes and characteristics of Yan Fu's cannibalist translation, and comparison between Yan cannibalist translation and Brazil cannibalist translation.
The author first introduced the Brazil cannibalism translation source and tradition, summarizes the cannibalist translation strategies and practice. Cannibalism translation using "swallow" and "nourishment" analogy, the liberation of the western world, refused to claim the highlights of the third world cultural colonization, national identity and cultural traditions.
Secondly, the author analyzes the causes of Yan's translation coincides with cannibalism translation. He advanced scientific thought of combining Chinese and western translation cultural view makes him more receptive to the west, and its translation factors in the view of utilitarianism makes the translation with the practicality of the distinctive features of that is to be able to meet the needs of the cultural context of the target language. In addition, because at the time of the China in the semi feudal and semi colonial period, so his translation is a product of advanced western cultural knowledge and China combination of traditional thoughts.
Again, the author in the study of sociology < > as an example, analyzes the characteristics of the cannibalist translation.
