譚恩美的小說《喜福會》是美國華裔文學(xué)的代表作之一。該小說細(xì)致刻畫了四對個性鮮明,具有代表性的中國母親和在美國出生的女兒之間的情感故事。本論文以美國華裔作家譚恩美的作品《喜福會》為研究對象,分析和解讀四對中國母親和美籍華裔女兒在美國社會的生活以及工作,通過探究母親與女兒不同文化身份和文化差異,對母女關(guān)系中問題和矛盾進行解讀,反映出華裔們雙重文化身份的微妙的態(tài)度和觀念的變化,并且研究新一代華裔子女對于自身文化身份的進一步認(rèn)知情況的原因和程度。 這些美籍華裔女性所遭遇的困難和進退兩難的情況并非只存在于《喜福會》之中,它們在以華裔女性為主角的文學(xué)作品中成為主要的主題。老一代移民美國的華人為適應(yīng)新的環(huán)境,不得不刻意融入美國強勢文化,但對處于弱勢的中國文化仍依戀不舍。他們的子女們則向往成為美國社會中真正的一員,渴望完全融入美國強勢文化。隨著全球一體化進程的加快,中國經(jīng)濟迅速發(fā)展,國力的日益增強,具有雙重文化身份的移民在全球經(jīng)濟文化交往中開始扮演重要角色。新一代華裔對處于弱勢的本族文化開始從一味排斥轉(zhuǎn)而表現(xiàn)出好奇和興趣,對其文化身份有了新的認(rèn)知。
