弗蘭克·麥吉尼斯被譽為當(dāng)代愛爾蘭劇作家中最高產(chǎn)、最杰出的代表之一。他的代表作《會有人看顧我》是基于黎巴嫩人質(zhì)危機事件所創(chuàng)作,講述了一名美國人、一名愛爾蘭人、一名英國人在黎巴嫩被綁架和被一同監(jiān)禁的經(jīng)歷。大多數(shù)評論聚焦于劇本中頻現(xiàn)的民族刻板印象、人物的元戲劇經(jīng)歷、互文性。盡管身份問題有所涉及,大多數(shù)評論者忽略了舞臺上缺席的角色,阿拉伯俘虜者,因而沒能對劇本中呈現(xiàn)的多重身份進行討論。本論文將借助斯圖爾特·霍爾、愛德華·薩義德、朱迪斯·巴特勒等人的身份相關(guān)理論分析劇本中多重身份的建構(gòu)與協(xié)商,挖掘麥吉尼斯對于身份以及因身份導(dǎo)致的沖突的思考。論文首先分析了三名人質(zhì)的國家身份以及他們民族刻板印象式的人物形象。由于固守國家身份,愛爾蘭人愛德華與英國人邁克爾頻起沖突。第三方美國人亞當(dāng)?shù)恼{(diào)和、新團體的形成、對個體身份的關(guān)注、共性的挖掘、互相的關(guān)愛促成了他們之間沖突以及國家身份的協(xié)商。隨后,論文討論了人質(zhì)與阿拉伯俘虜者之間的身份建構(gòu)。通過將阿拉伯俘虜者和阿拉伯世界貶低和定型為劣等的東方人與東方,人質(zhì)得以構(gòu)建他們優(yōu)越的西方人的集體身份。同時,雙方都將對方視作毫無差別、敵對的他者。盡管人質(zhì)有過協(xié)商沖突的積極嘗試...
