【摘要】：在十九世紀(jì)六十年代,西方列強(qiáng)為豪奪更多的商品資料市場和原材料市場加速了對外擴(kuò)張的步伐。中國和日本,在內(nèi)憂外患的雙重壓力下,都發(fā)起了從上而下的自救運(yùn)動——中國的洋務(wù)運(yùn)動和日本的明治維新,開始走上向西方學(xué)習(xí)的道路,以期通過引進(jìn)西方先進(jìn)的資本主義文化來解決本國面臨的嚴(yán)重危機(jī)。無論是在中國還是在日本,這段歷史時(shí)期都是本國向西方學(xué)習(xí)的高潮期。由于語言的不同,此時(shí)期向西方學(xué)習(xí)的過程無疑靠翻譯在其中發(fā)揮橋梁作用。從某種意義上說,這段時(shí)期的西學(xué)引進(jìn)過程其實(shí)也是翻譯的過程。發(fā)生在同一歷史時(shí)期的洋務(wù)運(yùn)動和明治維新在中日的現(xiàn)代化進(jìn)程中產(chǎn)生了重大的影響,日本明治維新改革的成功使日本一躍成為可以與歐美國家媲美的亞洲強(qiáng)國而中國洋務(wù)運(yùn)動改革的失敗使中國在近代化進(jìn)程中遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)落后于日本。最后兩國拉開的向西方學(xué)習(xí)的競賽以甲午中日戰(zhàn)爭中國的失敗而告終。由于翻譯貫穿了中日兩國的改革過程并在這場競賽中起到了舉足輕重的作用。本文試圖從翻譯的視角通過比較明治維新和洋務(wù)運(yùn)動的翻譯情況,分析其中翻譯的異同點(diǎn)以及造成翻譯活動懸殊的深層次原因,探討本時(shí)期翻譯活動在洋務(wù)運(yùn)動和明治維新的改革中所起的作用。研究發(fā)現(xiàn),由于本時(shí)期中日兩國翻譯的起點(diǎn)、指導(dǎo)政策和文化傳統(tǒng)的不同,洋務(wù)運(yùn)動和明治維新的翻譯情況并不相同。明治維新的翻譯在數(shù)量,種類和接受度方面都較洋務(wù)運(yùn)動更勝一籌。洋務(wù)運(yùn)動時(shí)期,中國的翻譯主要是由同文館,江南制造局和廣學(xué)會從事,其領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人員是對西學(xué)了解甚少的洋務(wù)派。在“中體西用”思想的指導(dǎo)下,洋務(wù)派注重翻譯帶來的實(shí)際效應(yīng),翻譯的心態(tài)十分功利。翻譯的書籍大多屬于與工業(yè)相關(guān)的自然科學(xué)門類,譯書的閱讀范圍大多也僅限于上層階級。而明治維新的書籍的翻譯種類較洋務(wù)運(yùn)動更為豐富,數(shù)量上也更勝一籌,譯作也得以在平民中推廣。此外,本文還探討了翻譯對社會帶來的影響。通過對比,本文發(fā)現(xiàn)日本系統(tǒng)、科學(xué)、全面的翻譯活動促成了明治維新改革的成功而中國片面的攝取方式最終導(dǎo)致了其改革的失敗。最后,本文提出建議,在新時(shí)期國家實(shí)行引進(jìn)了和走出去戰(zhàn)略中,要汲取歷史的教訓(xùn),走科學(xué)的翻譯之路。
