[Abstract]:The rapid development of the Internet has a profound impact on people's way of life. As the product of network culture, network language is paid more and more attention by the linguists at home and abroad. In addition, the differences between Chinese and western cultures will inevitably affect the cognition and use of language by language users. Therefore, it is of great significance to make a contrastive study of English and Chinese online chat words. It can help English learners to clear the barriers to online communication and better understand Western culture. Memetics is a new theory of explaining the law of cultural evolution based on Darwin's theory of evolution, which provides a new perspective for the study of network language. This paper attempts to make a contrastive analysis of the similarities and differences between English and Chinese memes from replication to propagation from the perspective of memetics. This paper is mainly based on the following three kinds of corpus: first, the author collects network languages from chat rooms and forums by participating in discussion or diving observation. The second is to search the published online dictionaries and online dictionaries. The third way is to use the existing online database network language analysis. This paper is mainly composed of seven parts. The first chapter is the introduction of this paper, this part describes the background of this study, research significance and research purposes. The second chapter is a literature review, this chapter briefly reviews the domestic and foreign research results on network language, the research results of memetics and the innovation of this paper. The third chapter introduces the theoretical basis of this paper, including the concept of meme, the relationship between meme and imitation, the life cycle of meme development, strong meme and weak meme and word meme. The fourth chapter includes the research design, mainly discusses the research issues, corpus collection, research methods and research steps. The fifth and sixth chapters are the core of this thesis. The author tries to analyze and compare the lexical similarities and differences between English and Chinese from the perspective of memetics. The fifth chapter analyzes the similarities of English and Chinese online chat words from the four life cycles of meme reproduction and propagation. The sixth chapter analyzes the causes of the differences in English and Chinese online vocabulary by comparing the different meme systems, the different environment of meme development and the differences between Internet users in culture, national character and mode of thinking. In addition, the author analyzes Leet as the typical vocabulary of English network language, and the lexical model as a typical example of Chinese online language. The seventh chapter draws a conclusion that under the perspective of memetics, English and Chinese online vocabulary memes will undergo the same process of reproduction and dissemination, in which English and Chinese online vocabulary can survive and develop. The difference between the two words is that they are in different meme systems and have different hosts and the external cultural environment of meme development.
