【摘要】：20世紀(jì)70年代，弗米爾第一次提出目的論的概念作為翻譯和翻譯活動(dòng)的一個(gè)術(shù)語。根據(jù)目的論，翻譯是一項(xiàng)有目的的行為活動(dòng)。決定翻譯過程的主要準(zhǔn)則是整個(gè)翻譯行為的目的。簡(jiǎn)單來說,譯者的翻譯目的決定翻譯策略的選擇。而歸化和異化作為兩種主要的翻譯策略，，一直是中西方譯者爭(zhēng)論的焦點(diǎn)。目的論為翻譯批評(píng)提供了一個(gè)新的視角，增加了翻譯的可能性并且擴(kuò)展了翻譯策略的范圍。 本論文主要從上述理論研究《紅樓夢(mèng)》兩個(gè)英譯本中的翻譯。原文中的建筑文化和室內(nèi)擺設(shè)，飲食文化及服飾文化的翻譯被作為重點(diǎn)的例子研究。通過分析，根據(jù)他們各自不同的翻譯目的，楊憲益主要采取異化的手段，而霍克斯主要選擇歸化策略。兩種不同方法的運(yùn)用充分地體現(xiàn)了他們?cè)诜g過程中對(duì)翻譯創(chuàng)造的嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)，做到了對(duì)原著負(fù)責(zé)，對(duì)讀者負(fù)責(zé)。
