從文學(xué)作品中“女性形象”的角度論“翻譯等值”

【摘要】:翻譯是溝通的橋梁,是文化交流的有效途徑!胺g對等”作為翻譯的標(biāo)準(zhǔn),一直是譯者不懈追求卻永遠(yuǎn)不可能完全達(dá)到的目標(biāo)。這是由于文化差異,譯者,譯文讀者,時代變遷等諸多因素的綜合影響造成的。 “女性形象”作為古今中外文學(xué)殿堂里永不衰竭的創(chuàng)作主題,在文學(xué)翻譯中理所當(dāng)然地占有舉足輕重的地位。 從文學(xué)作品中“女性形象”的角度研究“翻譯對等”是一個嶄新而有趣的課題,值得進(jìn)行系統(tǒng)深入的理論研究。作者認(rèn)為,女性的一些共同特征使“女性形象”在譯文中的“對等”成為可能,但由于文化差異等諸多因素的影響,“不對等”又是絕對的。不同時代,不同社會,主流文化對女性的審美標(biāo)準(zhǔn),道德評判大相徑庭。一種文化里的“美人”,“玉女”或“毒婦”可能被不同時代,不同文化圈的讀者或譯者解讀為不同的“版本”。 二十世紀(jì)六十年代女權(quán)主義的興起影響深遠(yuǎn),在某種程度上動搖了傳統(tǒng)文化,更是對傳統(tǒng)女性形象評判標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的大顛覆,文學(xué)中“女性形象對等”似乎更加難以企及。 就此論題,本文將分以下幾部分展開探討: 第一部分簡要介紹并總結(jié)國內(nèi)外主要翻譯理論從不同角度對“翻譯對等”的論述,基于此,陳述作者的觀點。 第二部分為本文主體,重點探討文學(xué)作品中“女性形象”及其在翻譯中的實現(xiàn)。首先,東西方女性的共同特征為翻譯實現(xiàn)“形象對等” 摘要 提供必要條件。同時必須看到,不同文化為傳統(tǒng)“女性形象”設(shè)定了 不同的評判標(biāo)準(zhǔn),而這種評判標(biāo)準(zhǔn)己為本文化圈廣泛接受認(rèn)可,沉淀 為其民族心理。東西方文化在道德規(guī)范,審美標(biāo)準(zhǔn)乃至外貌服飾,言 語舉止等方面的諸多差異,不可避免地造成“文化障礙”,對“女性 形象”實現(xiàn)“翻譯對等”是巨大的挑戰(zhàn)。本文通過大量實例從不同角 度論證了文化差異是翻譯中實現(xiàn)“形象對等”的障礙。同時通過原文 與譯文以及不同譯文之間的比較探討了克服文化障礙,實現(xiàn)“翻譯對 等”的可能性及具體對策。其中包括譯者的努力,如在何種情況下, 如何運用“歸化”與“異化”,“意譯”與“直譯”;也包括譯語讀者 的努力,如努力豐富自己的背景知識,提高自身的文化素養(yǎng),以及培 養(yǎng)對異域文化的敏感性等。 第三部分通過對文學(xué)作品經(jīng)典女性形象一林黛玉在楊憲益英譯本 中實現(xiàn)“形象對等”的個案分析,著重從道德規(guī)范,審美標(biāo)準(zhǔn)及外貌 服飾,行為舉止等四方面,體現(xiàn)傳統(tǒng)文化對“女性形象”的評判有著 根深蒂固的影響。同時指出楊譯在實現(xiàn)“女性形象”對等中的得失。 第四部分為全文總結(jié)。綜上所述,作者認(rèn)為,巨大文化差異導(dǎo)致 的“文化障礙”是翻譯中實現(xiàn)“女性形象”對等的巨大挑戰(zhàn)。越是時 代久遠(yuǎn),傳統(tǒng)文化烙印深的作品,其中的“女性形象”就越具特色, 翻譯中實現(xiàn)“對等”的困難也越大。然而隨著世界文化交流的日益頻 繁,“文化全球共享”正在成為現(xiàn)實,人們正在越來越多地了解異域 文化,也從中反觀自己的文化,,東西方文化從“互識”到“互證”到 “互補”是歷史的必然趨勢,這無疑大大增加了文學(xué)翻譯實現(xiàn)“翻譯 Translation Eq一至ivalenee -一Viewed from Tral、s!ation ofFe生nale】mageinLiterature 對等”“形象趨同”的可能性。以最近一部美國暢銷書《廊橋遺夢》 的中譯本為例,由于中美文化交流日益頻繁,美國日常生活己為大多 數(shù)目的語讀者所熟知,中譯本讀者會對女主人公,從外貌服飾,心理 活動到社會規(guī)范都有著與源語讀者十分相近甚至相同的“讀者反應(yīng)”。 基于此,可以說,日益頻繁的文化交流為翻譯中包括“女性形象”在 內(nèi)的諸多方面實現(xiàn)“對等”帶來福音。
