　　1938年賽珍珠因“對中國農(nóng)民生活豐富真實的史詩般的描述，以及在傳記方面的杰作”而被授予該年度的諾貝爾文學獎�！懂惏羁汀放c《戰(zhàn)斗的天使》這兩部同樣為其獲獎原因的傳記卻未能引起廣泛的注意。而實際上兩部傳記有助于解決至今仍有爭議的賽珍珠的文化身份問題。 作為史料，這兩部傳記證明了賽珍珠的美國裔身份，及其美國文化背景。作為文本，這兩部傳記揭示了賽珍珠對美國文化的認同及其為美國文化所認同的原因。追尋第一世界的文化認同以及為弱勢文化代言是賽珍珠文化身份建構(gòu)中相互依存的兩個方面。這兩個方面相互支持，同時也相互干擾。當賽珍珠試圖為弱勢文化代言時，她無法排除來自強勢文化的干擾。因此她的作品不可避免地具有一定的局限性。我們必須從跨文化的角度更加寬容地對待和評價賽珍珠的作品。但同時也不應(yīng)過于主觀地看待賽珍珠的文化身份問題，將她的小說提升到一個不恰當?shù)母叨取?br>
