《紫色》是美國黑人女作家艾麗斯·沃克的代表作。小說描寫了女主人公西莉從受壓迫到取得獨立和解放的艱苦歷程，揭示了處在父權(quán)制社會性別主義和種族主義雙重壓迫下的黑人婦女追求獨立和自我發(fā)展，實現(xiàn)精神自由、男女平等和種族平等的主題思想。 本文分析了小說女主人公獨立的過程、小說人物之間的關系及其對女主人公獨立過程的影響、小說人物宗教思想的轉(zhuǎn)變及對種族主義的顛覆。同時，本文也分析指出，沃克運用了一些精心選擇的文學技巧去強化和完善主題的構(gòu)建，使小說的內(nèi)容和文學技巧達到了高度的統(tǒng)一。本文認為艾麗斯·沃克從多個方面實現(xiàn)了小說主題的構(gòu)建，突出了小說主題豐富的內(nèi)涵。這一構(gòu)建小說主題的方法不但顯示出沃克杰出的文學才華，而且還吸引公眾去關注黑人婦女的獨立和自我發(fā)展并將對正在努力尋求自我和獨立的廣大黑人婦女產(chǎn)生深遠的影響。
