現(xiàn)代文體學是運用現(xiàn)代語言學理論和方法研究語言使用風格的一門學科。自80年代以來語篇分析與文體學相結合，并利用系統(tǒng)功能理論對語篇文體進行研究已形成一種趨勢。本文首先對文體的由來和發(fā)展，文體學研究對象及定義，文體學的科學分類做了概括性論述。其次，作者從語言的功能主義框架和多層次對語言描述方法對小說《簡·愛》的若干章節(jié)的敘述與獨白語篇組成成分之間的語義結構進行了探析，對于小說，筆者著眼于作品三個方面作品。作為信息一面，對應于概念功能，由及物性體現(xiàn)；作品作為語篇一面，對應于語篇功能，通過主位推進及銜接系統(tǒng)體現(xiàn)；作為話語一面，對應于語言對人際功能，通過語氣和情態(tài)系統(tǒng)體系，并且，從更高層次的語境角度試分析此小說的語境表現(xiàn)，從而證明系統(tǒng)功能理論為文體分析提供了一套嶄新的分析理論與方法。為我們欣賞和理解文學作品提供了新的視角和科學依據(jù)。
