作為能被美國主流社會接受的為數(shù)不多的少數(shù)族裔作家之一,湯亭亭無疑是美國族裔文學史上一位重要的有影響力的作家。她的前三部獲獎作品——《女勇士》,《中國佬》以及《引路人孫行者:他的即興曲》大多是關于女性主義,男子氣質,歷史,屬性,族裔政治等問題的探討。但是作為一個作家,她同其他作家一樣也對人類社會的普遍問題給予關注,如對愛與自由的渴望,對藝術與幸福的追求,以及對生與死的探尋。本文研究湯的新作《第五和平書》中的和諧,融合以及和平主義思想。通過把這本書與她前期作品進行比較和對照,指出湯亭亭無論在文學作品還是在現(xiàn)實生活中都是一名始終不渝的和平主義者。她的和平主義思想一直是貫穿其所有作品的主線,盡管直到在《第五和平書》中才浮出水面。本文并沒有就性別和族裔問題避而不談,而是專門用兩章探討了湯的和平女性主義和文化融合的觀點。與其他專門對湯作品進行的女性主義和文化屬性研究不同之處在于,本文的這兩章依然是為分析湯的和平主義而服務,意在說明湯的女性主義觀其實是和平女性主義,特點是主張男女之間互惠,互助,和諧的關系,而她支持文化融合的目的則是為了在多元文化和多重屬性共存的多元社會中尋求平衡與和平。為了尋求構建...
