本研究以埃文-佐哈爾的多元系統(tǒng)理論為基礎(chǔ),以李提摩太和余國(guó)藩兩位譯者在不同歷史時(shí)期的《西游記》英譯本為個(gè)案,采用描寫翻譯研究范式,以定性的研究方法將譯者和譯本置于其所處的多元系統(tǒng)之中,對(duì)一本多譯現(xiàn)象進(jìn)行歷時(shí)研究。相距近70年的不同時(shí)期的兩個(gè)《西游記》英譯本呈現(xiàn)出怎樣不同的特點(diǎn)?所呈現(xiàn)的不同特點(diǎn)與翻譯文學(xué)在目標(biāo)文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)中所處的位置有什么關(guān)聯(lián)?翻譯文學(xué)在文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)中的地位對(duì)譯者和譯本產(chǎn)生了怎樣的影響?本研究旨在探究翻譯文學(xué)在目標(biāo)文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)中的位置對(duì)譯者翻譯策略選擇的影響。研究發(fā)現(xiàn),20世紀(jì)初期《西游記》英譯處于“西方中心主義”的語(yǔ)境中,翻譯文學(xué)處在西方文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)的“邊緣”位置,譯者更注重譯本的“可接受性”并為源文本尋找現(xiàn)成的二級(jí)模式,歸化是翻譯的首要策略。李提摩太譯本的歸化主要表現(xiàn)在其對(duì)原文實(shí)施的跨文化操縱,即“援耶入佛”翻譯策略的運(yùn)用,具體表現(xiàn)為:對(duì)《西游記》主旨及結(jié)構(gòu)的策略性處理,對(duì)人物形象的基督化詮釋以及對(duì)部分內(nèi)容的有意誤譯;而20世紀(jì)末期《西游記》英譯處于“多元文化”的社會(huì)歷史語(yǔ)境中,中華民族崛起,翻譯文學(xué)在西方文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)中的位置逐漸由“邊緣”向“中心”演進(jìn)。此時(shí)翻譯活...
