多元系統(tǒng)理論下《西游記》兩個英譯本研究

本研究以埃文-佐哈爾的多元系統(tǒng)理論為基礎(chǔ),以李提摩太和余國藩兩位譯者在不同歷史時期的《西游記》英譯本為個案,采用描寫翻譯研究范式,以定性的研究方法將譯者和譯本置于其所處的多元系統(tǒng)之中,對一本多譯現(xiàn)象進(jìn)行歷時研究。相距近70年的不同時期的兩個《西游記》英譯本呈現(xiàn)出怎樣不同的特點?所呈現(xiàn)的不同特點與翻譯文學(xué)在目標(biāo)文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)中所處的位置有什么關(guān)聯(lián)?翻譯文學(xué)在文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)中的地位對譯者和譯本產(chǎn)生了怎樣的影響?本研究旨在探究翻譯文學(xué)在目標(biāo)文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)中的位置對譯者翻譯策略選擇的影響。研究發(fā)現(xiàn),20世紀(jì)初期《西游記》英譯處于“西方中心主義”的語境中,翻譯文學(xué)處在西方文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)的“邊緣”位置,譯者更注重譯本的“可接受性”并為源文本尋找現(xiàn)成的二級模式,歸化是翻譯的首要策略。李提摩太譯本的歸化主要表現(xiàn)在其對原文實施的跨文化操縱,即“援耶入佛”翻譯策略的運用,具體表現(xiàn)為:對《西游記》主旨及結(jié)構(gòu)的策略性處理,對人物形象的基督化詮釋以及對部分內(nèi)容的有意誤譯;而20世紀(jì)末期《西游記》英譯處于“多元文化”的社會歷史語境中,中華民族崛起,翻譯文學(xué)在西方文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)中的位置逐漸由“邊緣”向“中心”演進(jìn)。此時翻譯活...
