[Abstract]:The object of this study is the cultural exclusivity of the Chinese contemporary novel Red Sorghum Family and its German translation. The author collected and sorted out the cultural specialties in Red Sorghum Family and compared them with the German translation. The purpose of this study is to study the translation strategies of Chinese culture-specific items through qualitative and quantitative analysis, in order to provide a reference for the translation of culture-specific items in the future. The Red Sorghum Family is a famous contemporary literary work in China. The author won the 2012 Nobel Prize for Literature by Mo Yan. Mo Yan's works have attracted countless readers around the world with their bold imagination and extraordinary expression. The German translation Red Sorghum Family was completed by Peter Weber-Schafer and published in 2007. Its publication makes it possible to compare the original Chinese version of the Red Sorghum Family with the German translation. A large number of cultural specialties have frequently appeared in the Red Sorghum Family, leaving a deep impression on the readers. These culture-specific items are rooted in Chinese culture and are usually unable to find corresponding expressions in German, which makes translation more difficult. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss how translators deal with cultural exclusivity in literary works. The theoretical basis of this paper is divided into two aspects. On the one hand, it is based on the cultural turn of translatology and ReiB/Verrmeer 's Skopos translation theory. On the other hand, it deals with specific translation methods, including foreignization, domestication, translation strategies of culture-specific items proposed by Aksila and Xu Xiaojun's two supplements to Aksila's translation strategies. In this paper, the Chinese version of Red Sorghum Family is divided into six categories and eighteen subcategories. The classification standard draws on the research results of western scholars and Chinese scholars, and introduces the classification of culture-specific items in Sinology, which is also an innovation of this paper. This paper analyzes eight translation strategies proposed by Aksila, two translation strategies added by Xu Xiaojun, alienation, domestication and mixed translation strategies. At the same time, through qualitative research, this paper finds two new translation strategies, which can be used as a supplement to the existing translation strategies. Through quantitative analysis, this paper analyzes the frequency of use of various translation strategies and the relationship between the types of culture-specific items and translation strategies. This paper summarizes how translators use existing translation strategies, two new translation strategies, the high-frequency translation strategies used in culture-specific items translation and the high-frequency translation strategies used in translating specific culture-specific items. Finally, this paper puts forward some reasonable suggestions on the translation of culture-specific items in literary works.
