生態(tài)翻譯學視角下辜鴻銘與理雅各《論語》兩譯本的對比研究

【摘要】:翻譯作為一項交流活動,時至今日,古今中外的各翻譯理論學派已發(fā)展積累了豐富的理論知識。20世紀70年代霍姆斯發(fā)表了具有劃時代意義的論文《翻譯的名與實》,翻譯開始被翻譯理論家提倡成為一門獨立的學科,自此,翻譯研究呈現(xiàn)多元化的趨勢,越來越多的學者將研究重點從傳統(tǒng)的語義學、語言學模式轉向了文化研究,研究方法也從先前的經(jīng)驗性、規(guī)范性轉向了描述性、實證性。生態(tài)翻譯學則由于其可以從生態(tài)的視角來對翻譯的行動過程進行分析與研究,并通過譯者所處的生態(tài)環(huán)境對其所以版本進行能動的多維度的考察與整合,所以可以說其包含了文化等元素在內(nèi)的轉向性。生態(tài)翻譯學是由國內(nèi)學者胡庚申基于達爾文的生物進化論提出的翻譯理論,它強調譯者與翻譯生態(tài)環(huán)境的相互作用以及譯者在翻譯活動中的重要性,提出了“譯者中心論”。它認為翻譯是原文、讀者、作者、委托者、譯者背景等等因素互聯(lián)互動的整體,是一種全新的翻譯理論。 《論語》作為代表中國儒家學說典籍,記錄了孔子以及其弟子的事跡和對話,對中國的傳統(tǒng)文化、教育、經(jīng)濟、政治和道德倫理都產(chǎn)生了很大的影響,是中國文化的重要組成部分,因此,《論語》是中西文化交流的重要書籍,很多學者、傳教士和漢學家都翻譯了它。至今為止,《論語》的英文全譯本大約有40幾個,其中最具有影響力的是由有西方教育背景的辜鴻銘和英國傳教士理雅各所翻譯的版本。 本文旨在從生態(tài)翻譯學的角度比較分析辜鴻銘和理雅各所翻譯的《論語》,通過分析兩位譯者的生活經(jīng)歷、教育背景、雙語能力、漢語能力以及翻譯目的等等,比較兩者不同的翻譯生態(tài)環(huán)境,提出二者在不同的翻譯生態(tài)環(huán)境中所采取的不同翻譯策略,為翻譯實踐提出了相關建議。
[Abstract]:Translation as an exchange activity, today, Translation theory schools have developed and accumulated abundant theoretical knowledge. In the 1970s Holmes published an epoch-making paper, "the name and reality of Translation". Translation began to be advocated by translation theorists as an independent discipline. Since then, translation studies have shown a trend of diversification. More and more scholars have shifted their focus from traditional semantics and linguistic models to cultural studies, and research methods have shifted from previous experience and standardization to descriptive and empirical. Eco-translation studies can analyze and study the process of translation from an ecological perspective, and make a dynamic multi-dimensional investigation and integration of its versions through the ecological environment in which the translator is located. So it can be said that it contains elements such as culture and other elements of the turn. Eco-translation is a translation theory put forward by Hu Gengshen, a domestic scholar, based on Darwin's biological evolution theory. It emphasizes the interaction between the translator and the translation ecological environment and the importance of the translator in the translation activities, and puts forward the "translator centered theory". It holds that translation is a new theory of translation, that is, the interaction of the original text, the reader, the author, the entruster, the translator background and so on. The Analects of Confucius, as a classic book representing Chinese Confucianism, recorded the deeds and dialogues of Confucius and his disciples, and had a great impact on Chinese traditional culture, education, economy, politics and moral ethics. As an important part of Chinese culture, Analects of Confucius is an important book for cultural exchange between China and the West, which has been translated by many scholars, missionaries and sinologists. Up to now, there are about 40 complete English versions of the Analects of Confucius, the most influential of which are translated by Gu Hongming, a Western educator, and Richard Reich, a British missionary. This paper aims to compare and analyze the Analects of Confucius translated by Gu Hongming and James from the perspective of ecological translation, by analyzing their life experience, educational background, bilingual ability, Chinese ability and translation purpose, and so on. By comparing the two different translation ecological environments, the author puts forward the different translation strategies adopted by them in different translation ecological environments, and puts forward some relevant suggestions for translation practice.
