華南理工大學(xué)船舶與海洋工程系創(chuàng)建于1958年，，是培養(yǎng)船舶與海洋工程專業(yè)高級專門人才的學(xué)科。本專業(yè)是以數(shù)學(xué)、力學(xué)、船舶與海洋工程為主干學(xué)科。學(xué)生主要學(xué)習(xí)數(shù)學(xué)、力學(xué)、計(jì)算機(jī)軟硬件基礎(chǔ)系列課程、計(jì)算機(jī)輔助設(shè)計(jì)與制造、船舶原理、船舶結(jié)構(gòu)力學(xué)、現(xiàn)代造船技術(shù)、船舶設(shè)計(jì)原理、工程經(jīng)濟(jì)和管理基礎(chǔ)等。
     學(xué)生畢業(yè)后，能從事船舶與海洋工程結(jié)構(gòu)物及相近領(lǐng)域的設(shè)計(jì)、檢驗(yàn)、研究、制造、規(guī)劃和經(jīng)營與管理等方面的工作，適應(yīng)社會主義現(xiàn)代化建設(shè)需要的高級人才。

The Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering is a discipline for cultivation of high-level talents in the field of naval architecture and ocean engineering and was established in 1958.  The basis of discipline lies in mathematics, naval architecture and ocean engineering. Students are offered courses such as Mathematics, Mechanics, Series courses of computer technology, CAD/CAM, Principle of naval architecture, Structural mechanics of ships, Modern shipbuilding technology, Principle of ship design, Engineering economy and Management etc.
 
The graduates can engage the design, inspection, research, manufacture, planning, management in the field of naval architecture and ocean engineering or relevant disciplines.
