英語禮貌標記語的語用化:變化、路徑及動因

自20世紀70年代以來,語言禮貌研究經(jīng)歷了從“第一波”到“第二波”的范式轉(zhuǎn)變。前者探討語言禮貌的形式、原則和策略,在宏觀上把握語言禮貌的表現(xiàn);后者則關注交際參與者對禮貌的評價與理解,在微觀上討論具體語境中對禮貌的個體解讀。在此背景下,本研究關注禮貌標記語的歷時發(fā)展,探究原本在具體語境中出現(xiàn)的個體禮貌用法如何規(guī)約成為默認的語言禮貌形式,試圖平衡和突破既有的兩種研究范式。與此同時,語用化研究的興起為禮貌標記語的歷時探究提供了可能,但是,既有研究并未在語用化理論的框架內(nèi)充分描述禮貌標記語的形成;此外,語用化理論注重過程的描寫,缺乏對動因的解釋;诖,本研究融合語用化理論和順應論,描寫英語禮貌標記語的歷時變化,重現(xiàn)英語禮貌標記語的語用化路徑,并揭示英語禮貌標記語的語用化動因。本研究依托中古英語語料庫、近代早期英語語料庫、18世紀英語語料庫和美國英語歷時語料庫,并參考《牛津詞典》、《詞源詞典》中的說明,對三組英語禮貌標記語進行詳細的案例分析。第一組是對請求具有緩和功能的詞匯please和pray;第二組是致歉類短語或小句excuse/pardon me和I am sorry;第三組是含有情態(tài)動...
