【摘要】：正英國歷史學(xué)家湯因比曾說過:"佛教流傳到西方,將使其他在20世紀所發(fā)生的歷史性事件,相形失色。其意義及重要性,遠超過兩次世界大戰(zhàn)、政治體制的革新、科學(xué)上的成就、核子武器的發(fā)明,以及太空發(fā)展等。也許現(xiàn)在尚未被人發(fā)覺,但在幾百年之后,回顧歷史,就會發(fā)覺佛教對西方的社會、文化、精神之影響,遠較其他20世紀中任何重大事件,更為深遠。"加拿大佛教會湛山精舍恰好身處西方社會,一直擔(dān)任在西方社會弘揚佛法的先鋒,且有50年與西方文明對話的經(jīng)驗。筆者有幸參與其中,
[Abstract]:English historian Tony Toynbee once said: "Buddhism spread to the West, will make other historical events in the 20th century, disfigured." Its significance and importance far outweigh the two world wars, the reform of the political system, scientific achievements, the invention of nuclear weapons, and the development of space. It may not have been noticed yet, but in a few hundred years, looking back on history, we will find that Buddhism has a far more profound social, cultural and spiritual impact on the West than any other major event in the 20th century. " The Buddhist Church of Canada, Zhanshan Jingshe, who happens to be in the Western world, has been a pioneer in promoting the Dharma in the West and has 50 years of experience in dialogue with Western civilization. The author was fortunate to participate in it.
