【摘要】：李平書是上海近代史上的重要人物,也是中國近代史上知名人物。他生活在衰敗的清朝與動蕩的民國時期,其時中西碰撞、外患內憂、新舊遞嬗。李平書是許多歷史事件參與者,甚至是代表性人物,包括參與遂溪界務、領導上海地方自治、參加上海辛亥光復。他生在上海,長在上海,主要活動在上海,涉足官界、商界、學界。通過對李平書生平活動、思想的剖析,可以更好地理解他所經歷的那段中國歷史,更加深入地了解近代上海社會,深入理解一個亦官、亦商、亦儒的社會轉型時期士紳的復雜生活。 全文分為四章： 第一章龍門書院時期的李平書,簡述李平書作為龍門書院弟子所學、所行以及家庭背景等內容,勾勒出其傳統(tǒng)士紳的形象。 第二章廣東十年,通過李平書在廣東擔任過陸豐、新寧、遂溪三任縣令時留下的一百多個文牘,解讀其活動。在這個階段,他秉持原則,實現(xiàn)了早年的一些想法,加上周致、慎密、圓融的辦事作風,與官、紳、民各方的關系都算融洽,初步展現(xiàn)出“辦事才”的特點,其行政成績得到多方肯定。 第三章地方自治時期的李平書,通過闡述李平書與地方自治的關系,肯定其開創(chuàng)性的功績。地方自治運動是上海這個特殊城市的時代產物,匯聚了天時、地利、人和各項條件,李平書是這一運動的主要領導者。1907年,李平書創(chuàng)辦自治機關報——《上海周報》,他的發(fā)刊詞《論過去之上海、論今日之上海、論未來之上�！防L制出一幅自治的藍圖,十年期滿,實現(xiàn)者十之八九。1923至1927年是上海地方自治的恢復時期,李平書于1924年2月接任市公所總董,直至去世。除了規(guī)劃自治進程,他的知人善任、統(tǒng)籌協(xié)調,且于市政工程、中醫(yī)藥行業(yè)等,均顯成績。其間,他參與辛亥革命與“二次革命”,上海光復是同盟會與地方勢力之間一次成功的合作,同盟會追求的革命目標和地方勢力追求的地方平穩(wěn)過渡,兩者獲得均衡發(fā)展。在這次合作中,李平書以地方自治機構總董、商團武裝會長、預備立憲公會會董等身份成為地方勢力的首席代表,成為中部同盟會“溝通士紳,聯(lián)絡商團”光復方針的關鍵。革命派與地方勢力的聯(lián)合是時勢使然,但是,在反清目標推進的過程中,兩派始終有各自的利益和立場需要堅守。上海建立滬軍都督府后,陳其美出任都督時,對都督職責作了公開的自我限定,這是兩派合作與博弈的內在張力的體現(xiàn),也反襯出地方勢力強勢的一面。李平書出任滬軍都督府民政總長、江蘇省民政司司長,同時被陳其美委任為江南制造總局總理,約經半年,淡出各項政務。1913年,李平書仍舊支持革命黨反擊袁世凱,后因革命失敗避走日本。就革命目標而言,在辛亥革命的合作中,革命派起著主導作用。地方勢力在1913年顯現(xiàn)出保守地方利益而拋棄革命的一面,然而就保守地方利益,追求社會穩(wěn)定的目標而言,他們的立場是1911年的延續(xù)。 第四章書畫鑒藏,李平書是民國時期著名書畫鑒藏家,本章論述李平書在組織書畫鑒賞活動、弘揚國粹等方面的貢獻。他曾會同書畫界友人聯(lián)合倡議反對鑒藏者秘而不宣,組織展覽、集會與交流。出于同樣的目的,1913年赴日本參加東京書畫賽會,還多次請柯羅版技師印刷字畫,以橶同好。他晚年構筑的昆山梅園成為延續(xù)書畫交流的極好載體,每當梅花盛開,友朋雅集,他們既共賞美景,還可以欣賞李平書的收藏。鑒藏與筑園,兩者在精神、思維、情感等方面具有同構性,反映出李平書不凡的審美修養(yǎng)、生活情趣與道德追求。 最后是結語,通過比較來綜述作為上海地方士紳的李平書的特點。
