[Abstract]:On November 12, 1899, two French Naval lieutenants, while surveying the terrain in preparation for the French invasion of the Gulf of Guangzhou, were killed in an attack by the local people at the Battery of Huangluo Oak Mountain in Suixi. This incident became an excuse for France to send troops to China. This led to large-scale military operations, military retaliation at sea against China, and negative reports in the French media of the deaths of two "heroic and patriotic" naval officers, sparking anti-Chinese sentiment in France. The photo album of French Navy Lieutenant Pierre Alex and the diaries of Soldier Leon Suberman and the deputy official, Schwarzenegger, recorded the incident and the final battle in the Gulf of Guangzhou, respectively.
