【摘要】："蔗糖革命"指的是發(fā)生于17世紀加勒比地區(qū)的一連串為大西洋世界帶來深遠影響的歷史事件,英屬巴巴多斯是最先經(jīng)歷這一革命性變化的地區(qū)。"蔗糖革命"前,巴巴多斯社會的主要特征是小土地所有者們在一些白人契約傭工的幫助下種植煙草和其它作物。然而隨著甘蔗成為英屬巴巴多斯的主要作物,曾經(jīng)擁有該島大部分土地的小農(nóng)們,逐漸被幾百個可以買得起機器和設(shè)備的種植園主們所代替,于是作物生產(chǎn)方式由小農(nóng)地生產(chǎn)逐漸轉(zhuǎn)變?yōu)榇蠓N植園生產(chǎn),勞動力結(jié)構(gòu)也從白人契約傭工漸漸變?yōu)楹谌伺`為主。"蔗糖革命"后的巴巴多斯社會與早期殖民者們在此建立的社會已經(jīng)完全不同。
[Abstract]:The "sugar revolution" refers to a series of historic events that have had a profound impact on the Atlantic world in the 17th century Caribbean, and British Barbados was the first region to experience this revolutionary change. " Before the Sugar Revolution, the main feature of Barbados society was that small landowners grew tobacco and other crops with the help of white indentured domestic workers. However, as sugar cane became the staple crop in British Barbados, smallholders, who once owned most of the island's land, were gradually replaced by hundreds of planters who could afford to buy machinery and equipment. As a result, the production of crops gradually changed from small farm production to large plantation production, and the labor structure gradually changed from white indentured domestic workers to black slaves. " The society of Barbados after the sucrose revolution was completely different from the society established here by the early colonists.
