【摘要】：中國科學社1914-1915年由中國留學生在美國建立,1918年總部遷回中國以后其在美國的組織一度渙散。1929年科學社理事會和總干事楊孝述委托清華大學留美監(jiān)督梅貽琦重組美國分社,選舉職員,召開年會,聯(lián)絡留學生,加強中美科技教育聯(lián)系,成效顯著。后來在1931年底梅貽琦被召回國擔任清華大學校長之后,由趙元任、湯佩松、任之恭、裘開明等繼續(xù)組織美國分社活動。本文根據(jù)哈佛燕京圖書館所藏美國分社1929-1936年檔案資料進行考察,認為科學社美國分社的歷史表明,中國科學技術和教育的發(fā)展一直有著廣泛的跨國因素,科學專業(yè)精神和愛國民族主義是中國近代科學家的兩個強大驅(qū)動力,而自我管理是以科學社為代表的早期中國科學家共同體對中國公民社會建設的一個貢獻。
[Abstract]:The China Science Society was founded in the United States by Chinese students from 1914 to 1915. After its headquarters moved back to China in 1918, its organization in the United States was once fragmented. In 1929, Yang Xiaoshu, the board of the Science Society and director general, entrusted Tsinghua University with studying in the United States to supervise Mei Yiqi's reorganization of the US branch. After electing staff, holding annual meetings, liaising with overseas students, and strengthening scientific and educational ties between China and the United States, the results were remarkable. Later, in end of 1931, after Mei Yiqi was recalled to serve as president of Tsinghua University, Zhao Yuanren, Tang Peisong, Chih Kung Jen, Qiu and others continue to organize American bureau activities. Based on the archives of the American Branch collected by Harvard Yenching Library from 1929-1936, this paper considers that the history of the American Branch of Science Society shows that. The development of science and technology and education in China has always had a wide range of transnational factors. Scientific professionalism and patriotic nationalism are two powerful driving forces for Chinese modern scientists. And self-management is a contribution of the early Chinese community of scientists represented by the Science Society to the construction of Chinese civil society.
