美國作家多娜·塔特的小說《秘史》以其古典文學(xué)背景、優(yōu)美的文筆和引人入勝的情節(jié)而被譽(yù)為當(dāng)代的經(jīng)典。本文主要研究了小說的古希臘淵源,集中討論了三個問題:古希臘思想是如何影響小說的藝術(shù)創(chuàng)作的;歐里庇得斯的悲劇《酒神的女祭司》如何在小說中得以再現(xiàn);小說與歐氏這部悲劇是否具有全面的可比性。關(guān)于小說創(chuàng)作思想的古希臘淵源,筆者從亞里士多德在《詩學(xué)》中提出的戲劇理論里找到了相當(dāng)有說服力的解答。亞氏理論中的主要觀點(diǎn),包括由偶然中的必然而引起“憐憫與恐懼”,引起恐懼與憐憫的情境,突變與發(fā)現(xiàn)交織的復(fù)雜情節(jié),以及“可信的不可能”與“不可信的可能”等均對小說《秘史》創(chuàng)作有重要的影響。歐里庇得斯的悲劇《酒神的女祭司》在小說中從不同角度得以再現(xiàn),并且對小說情節(jié)的發(fā)展起到關(guān)鍵作用�；趤喪系膽騽±碚�,筆者認(rèn)為小說《秘史》與悲劇《酒神的女祭司》具有全面的可比性,并從情節(jié)、人物與主題等方面將小說與悲劇做出對比。歐氏悲劇中所反映的古希臘悲劇主題,包括人類認(rèn)知的局限性、罪與罰、生死觀、命運(yùn)觀等均在小說中得到充分的體現(xiàn)。可以說《秘史》獨(dú)特的藝術(shù)魅力與其古典文學(xué)背景是密不可分的。
