歷史性與虛構(gòu)性:《轉(zhuǎn)吧,這偉大的世界》的歷史元小說解讀

【摘要】:美籍愛爾蘭裔作家科倫·麥凱恩(1965-)是當(dāng)今美國(guó)文壇的新起之星,其代表作《轉(zhuǎn)吧,這偉大的世界》,結(jié)構(gòu)精巧,主題深刻,獲得2009年美國(guó)國(guó)家圖書獎(jiǎng)。小說以無名藝人在世貿(mào)雙塔間的走鋼絲表演和主人公柯里根的車禍為兩條主線,串聯(lián)起來自紐約社會(huì)各階層的十一個(gè)形形色色的主要人物,揭示出只有愛和人與人之間的交流才能治愈創(chuàng)傷。本論文以琳達(dá)·哈琴的歷史元小說為理論依據(jù)。歷史元小說既強(qiáng)調(diào)了小說的自我指涉性,又注重書寫被傳統(tǒng)文本忽視的多元化聲音!掇D(zhuǎn)吧,這偉大的世界》是典型的歷史元小說,麥凱恩運(yùn)用戲仿、互文、多元敘事等寫作技巧,挑戰(zhàn)客觀歷史和線性敘事,重構(gòu)紐約市邊緣化人物的別樣多元的歷史。本論文包括三個(gè)部分。第一部分介紹科倫·麥凱恩及其作品《轉(zhuǎn)吧,這偉大的世界》,簡(jiǎn)要梳理和概括該小說的國(guó)內(nèi)外研究現(xiàn)狀,并闡述了琳達(dá)·哈琴的歷史元小說理論,以及本論文的框架。第二部分分為三章。第一章探討了麥凱恩如何運(yùn)用戲仿和互文的寫作手法挑戰(zhàn)客觀歷史。小說《轉(zhuǎn)吧,這偉大的世界》戲仿了《圣經(jīng)》和菲利普·珀蒂的自傳《登上云端》,并與《了不起的蓋茨比》和《達(dá)洛維夫人》互文,通過對(duì)該小說的戲仿和互文性分析,揭示出麥凱恩的歷史觀,即歷史具有文本性和虛構(gòu)性。第二章研究麥凱恩如何采用萬花筒般的敘事視角,并置過去與現(xiàn)在的敘事手法,顛覆線性敘事,并從不同視角分析小說兩個(gè)主要人物——柯里根和無名走鋼絲藝人,揭露出敘事的不可靠性。此外,本章還探討了“9·11”恐怖襲擊事件與小說中涉及的其他歷史事件之間的關(guān)系。“9 · 11”事件造成的創(chuàng)傷具有不可言說性,因此,麥凱恩利用其他歷史事件指涉“9 · 11”事件。第三章著重分析了小說如何重構(gòu)別樣多元的歷史。本章討論了紐約的邊緣化人物,如地鐵涂鴉攝影師,布朗克斯區(qū)的黑人妓女和越戰(zhàn)中失去兒子的母親,如何用個(gè)人的小歷史挑戰(zhàn)統(tǒng)一的大歷史,還探討了小說希望和救贖的主題。第三部分為結(jié)論。通過以上分析,本文認(rèn)為麥凱恩運(yùn)用后現(xiàn)代寫作手法,巧妙地融合了真實(shí)的歷史事件和虛構(gòu)的小說人物,營(yíng)造出小說的歷史性和虛構(gòu)性。作為典型的歷史元小說,《轉(zhuǎn)吧,這偉大的世界》模糊了歷史和小說之間的界限,揭露出被官方歷史排除的多元化歷史。此外,該小說還為“9·11”事件后困惑的美國(guó)人提供了洞見,即只有通過愛和交流,人們才能走出創(chuàng)傷。
[Abstract]:Collen McCain, an Irish American writer, is a new rising star in American literary world. His masterpiece, "turn around, this Great World", is a delicate structure and profound theme, which won the 2009 National Book Award of the United States. The novel, based on the wire walking performance of the nameless artist between the twin towers of the World Trade Organization and the car accident of the hero Corrigan, is a series of eleven major characters from all walks of life in New York City. Reveal that only love and communication between people can heal wounds. This thesis is based on Linda Harqin's historical metafiction. The historical metafiction not only emphasizes the self-referential nature of the novel, but also pays attention to writing the pluralistic voice neglected by the traditional text. (turn around, this Great World) is a typical historical metafiction, in which McCain uses parody and intertextuality. Writing techniques such as multi-narrative challenge objective history and linear narration and reconstruct the other pluralistic history of marginalized characters in New York City. This thesis includes three parts. The first part introduces Collen McCain and his work "turn, this Great World", briefly combs and summarizes the domestic and foreign research status of this novel, and expounds Linda Harqin's historical metafiction theory and the frame of this thesis. The second part is divided into three chapters. The first chapter discusses how McCain challenges the objective history by using parody and intertextuality. The novel "turn around, this Great World" parodies the Bible and Philip Perty's autobiography, and intertextuals with the Great Gatsby and Madame Dalloway, through parody and intertextuality analysis of the novel. It reveals McCain's view of history, that is, history is textual and fictitious. The second chapter studies how McCain adopts the kaleidoscope narrative perspective, combines the past and present narrative techniques, subverts the linear narration, and analyzes the two main characters of the novel-Corrigan and nameless wire walker from different perspectives. Reveal the unreliability of the narrative. In addition, this chapter explores the relationship between the terrorist attacks of 11 September and other historical events in the novel... the trauma caused by the events of 11 September is unspeakable, and therefore, McCain used other historical events to refer to the 9 / 11 incident. The third chapter focuses on how to reconstruct the novel's diverse history. This chapter discusses how marginalized New York people, such as subway graffiti photographers, black prostitutes in the Bronx, and mothers who lost their sons in the Vietnam War, challenge the big history of unity with their own small histories. The theme of hope and redemption is also discussed. The third part is the conclusion. Based on the above analysis, this paper argues that McCain, using postmodern writing techniques, skillfully combines real historical events with fictional characters to create the historical and fictional nature of the novel. As a typical historical metafiction, the great world blurs the line between history and fiction, exposing the pluralistic history excluded by official history. In addition, the novel provides insight to confused Americans after 9 / 11 that only through love and communication can people get out of the trauma.
