符號價(jià)值視角下的《嘉麗妹妹》分析

【摘要】:西奧多·德萊賽是20世紀(jì)美國文學(xué)歷史上一位杰出的自然主義作家。他的代表作《嘉麗妹妹》講述了女主人公嘉麗從一位身無分文的鄉(xiāng)村少女變成上流社會名媛的故事。在追逐自己夢想的過程中,嘉麗雖然獲得了財(cái)富,地位和聲譽(yù),但卻沒有獲得真正的快樂!都嘻惷妹谩穭(chuàng)作于1900年,此時(shí)正值美國消費(fèi)文化蓬勃崛起之時(shí),人們被“消費(fèi)即快樂”,“我消費(fèi),故我在”的消費(fèi)價(jià)值理念所感染,并被形形色色的商品所包圍;而商品又被賦予了各種符號價(jià)值,人們所購買和消費(fèi)的并不是商品本身,而是能夠彰顯個(gè)人財(cái)富和社會地位的符號價(jià)值。因此在不知不覺中,人們投身到了符號消費(fèi)之中。在小說《嘉麗妹妹》中,西奧多·德萊賽為我們展示了消費(fèi)社會的方方面面。人們通過消費(fèi)來滿足自身的心理需求,同時(shí)消費(fèi)也變成了一種生活方式。它鼓勵(lì)消費(fèi)至上,誘導(dǎo)人們進(jìn)行炫耀性消費(fèi),展示人們的消費(fèi)和購買能力。此時(shí),對符號的占有代替了對物的占有,成為身份認(rèn)同的主要根據(jù)和較高生活品質(zhì)的象征。在符號消費(fèi)的影響下,親情、友情和愛情都無不例外地被烙上了消費(fèi)關(guān)系的印記,之前友好親密的愛已經(jīng)不復(fù)存在。人們之間的關(guān)系轉(zhuǎn)變成一種商品市場上的交換關(guān)系,以實(shí)現(xiàn)其“符號價(jià)值”。本文從鮑德里亞的符號價(jià)值理論出發(fā),以《嘉麗妹妹》為文本,對小說中的消費(fèi)行為、場景以及人物進(jìn)行解讀,試圖挖掘符號價(jià)值在該小說中的體現(xiàn),從而揭示符號價(jià)值在當(dāng)代社會的真實(shí)寫照。從符號價(jià)值的視角分析《嘉麗妹妹》,本文可以得出以下結(jié)論:符號消費(fèi)已經(jīng)成為當(dāng)代社會一種主要的生活方式,人們用炫耀式的購買力彰顯自己的財(cái)富和地位以獲得他人的尊重;明星在變成時(shí)尚引導(dǎo)者的同時(shí),也變成了商品的代言人,以吸引觀眾的眼球以及激發(fā)其購買欲望,從而促進(jìn)商品的大規(guī)模消費(fèi)。
[Abstract]:In 20th century, Theodore Dreiser was an outstanding naturalist writer in the history of American literature. His masterpiece, Sister Carrie, tells of the heroine Carrie's transformation from a penniless country girl to an upper-class socialite. In the pursuit of their dreams, Although Carrie has acquired wealth, status and reputation, she has not been truly happy. Sister Carrie was written in 1900 at a time when consumer culture in the United States was booming, and people were called "consumption is happiness," "I consume," So I was infected by the concept of "consumer value" and surrounded by a variety of commodities, and commodities were given symbolic values, and what people bought and consumed was not the goods themselves. But the symbolic value of personal wealth and social status. Thus, unwittingly, people throw themselves into symbolic consumption. In the novel Sister Carrie, Theodore Dreiser shows us all aspects of consumer society. People consume to meet their own psychological needs, and consumption becomes a way of life. It encourages consumption first and induces conspicuous consumption. Display people's consumption and purchasing ability. At this time, the possession of symbols replaces the possession of things, and becomes the main basis of identity and the symbol of higher quality of life. Friendship and love have been branded with the stamp of a consumer relationship, before the friendly and intimate love no longer exists. The relationship between people into a commodity market exchange relationship, Based on Baudrillard's theory of symbolic value, this paper interprets the consumption behavior, scene and characters in the novel in order to find out the embodiment of symbolic value in the novel. In order to reveal the real portrayal of symbolic value in contemporary society. From the perspective of symbolic value, this paper can draw the following conclusions: symbol consumption has become a major way of life in contemporary society. People use their ostentatious purchasing power to show their wealth and status in order to gain the respect of others, and stars become fashion leaders as well as spokesmen of goods to attract the audience's attention and stimulate their desire to buy. Thus promoting the large-scale consumption of commodities.
