【摘要】：胡適早年留學(xué)康奈爾大學(xué)時(shí)用英文寫下四篇西方文學(xué)論文,在其中一篇他提到英國小說家、文學(xué)批評家和基督教護(hù)教學(xué)家G.K.切斯特頓,并對其《羅伯特·勃朗寧》一書贊譽(yù)有加。本文進(jìn)一步考察二者之間的關(guān)系,認(rèn)為切斯特頓的宗教思想對青年胡適有不可忽視的影響。本文首先考察胡適閱讀過切斯特頓的哪些著作;然后從學(xué)業(yè)需要和宗教信仰的角度論述青年胡適心儀切斯特頓的原因;接著論述貫穿切斯特頓和青年胡適的著作的一個(gè)重要主題:樂觀主義,并著重探討兩人在樂觀主義的要素——自由意志思想——上的相似性。最后,本文聯(lián)系胡適的實(shí)用主義轉(zhuǎn)向和20世紀(jì)初中國的時(shí)代背景探討胡適后來不再提及切斯特頓的原因。
[Abstract]:When Hu Shi studied at Cornell University in his early years, he wrote four western literary papers in English, one of which mentioned G. K. Chesterton, a British novelist, literary critic and Christian conservationist. And for his book Robert Browning, this article goes further and looks at the relationship between the two. It is believed that Chesterton's religious thought has an important influence on youth Hu Shi. Firstly, this paper examines which works Chesterton has read; Then, from the angle of academic needs and religious belief, it discusses the reasons why young Hu Shi likes Chesterton; Then it discusses an important theme of Chesterton and youth Hu Shi: optimism, and focuses on the similarities between them in the element of optimism-free will thought. Finally. Based on Hu Shi's pragmatic turn and the background of China in early 20th century, this paper discusses the reasons why #internal_person1# did not mention Chesterton later.
