20世紀(jì)70年代,“水門(mén)事件”的披露,導(dǎo)致尼克松被迫辭職,從而成為美國(guó)歷史上首位,且是唯一一位辭職的總統(tǒng)。作為美國(guó)歷史上最不光彩的政治丑聞之一,其不僅對(duì)美國(guó)歷史、政治產(chǎn)生了重大影響,而且對(duì)語(yǔ)言的使用也有著深遠(yuǎn)的影響。 自“Watergate”一詞出現(xiàn)后,《紐約時(shí)報(bào)》保守派專欄作家,尼克松政府演講撰稿人威廉·賽菲爾,掀起了-gate族詞的炮制潮流,推動(dòng)–gate族詞迅速?gòu)?fù)制。最初,在美國(guó),僅限于將國(guó)家領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人遭遇執(zhí)政危機(jī)或執(zhí)政丑聞的事件冠之以“-gate”的名稱。繼爾,“-gate”的內(nèi)涵幾經(jīng)演變,從政治丑聞、社會(huì)新聞,擴(kuò)展到任何具有轟動(dòng)效應(yīng)的事件。近來(lái)年,隨著中國(guó)改革開(kāi)放的日益向縱深發(fā)展,英漢語(yǔ)言接觸日益頻繁,英語(yǔ)中的“-gate”通過(guò)直譯被譯為漢語(yǔ)的“門(mén)”字,完成模因化的過(guò)程之后,實(shí)現(xiàn)了語(yǔ)義擴(kuò)大化和形式漢語(yǔ)化,指示對(duì)象從政治領(lǐng)域和國(guó)家高端領(lǐng)導(dǎo)等公眾人物轉(zhuǎn)向了娛樂(lè)體育等文化生活與普通民眾,意義上從轟動(dòng)性的丑聞事件轉(zhuǎn)向略含貶義或相對(duì)消極的小風(fēng)波甚或是不具有貶義色彩的小事件。 鑒于當(dāng)今網(wǎng)絡(luò)當(dāng)中鋪天蓋地的“門(mén)事件”,本文以道金斯(1976)提供的模因論為理論基礎(chǔ),進(jìn)行中英文“門(mén)族詞”的對(duì)比研究...
