從目的論角度比較研究戲劇《推銷員之死》的兩個中譯本

戲劇是一種具有二元性的獨特藝術(shù)形式,它既可以在舞臺上為觀眾帶來鮮活的視聽享受,也可以像小說和詩歌一樣作為文學(xué)作品供讀者欣賞。然而,長期以來,戲劇翻譯并未得到學(xué)術(shù)界的足夠重視。國內(nèi)外關(guān)于戲劇翻譯研究的專著和論文也極為有限。戲劇的二元性使譯者面臨一個兩難的困境:究竟是要突出戲劇的可讀性,還是要保證其可表演性?此外,如何評價戲劇疑問也是一個棘手的問題。 國內(nèi)外對戲劇翻譯的研究起止于三十年前,“可表演性”與“可讀性”之爭一直貫穿其中,較著名且有代表性的當(dāng)屬英國理論家蘇珊·巴斯奈特的理論。巴斯奈特在20世紀(jì)八十年代中期否定了與自己七十年代所提的“可表演性”觀點,認(rèn)為實現(xiàn)“可讀性”應(yīng)該是戲劇翻譯者的第一要務(wù)。為了說明及協(xié)調(diào)這兩個看似矛盾的觀點,本文擬從功能角度出發(fā)考察這一矛盾,以目的論作為研究的理論基礎(chǔ),詳盡對比分析《推銷員之死》兩個中文版本,其中一個版本由英若誠先生翻譯,另一個版本由陳良廷先生翻譯。 由德國功能派翻譯理論發(fā)展而來的目的論指出,翻譯是有明確目的的跨文化交際活動,翻譯目的是決定翻譯行為的首要因素,翻譯的過程受到各種因素的綜合制約。目的論為解決戲劇翻譯困境提供了嶄新的視角,并...
