從中國第三次翻譯高潮中小說的翻譯看文化地位對文學(xué)翻譯的影響

【摘要】: 隨著文化研究熱的興起,從文化的角度來研究文學(xué)翻譯也逐漸形成潮流,文化因素在翻譯中的作用也越來越受到重視。翻譯是文化交流的一種方式,翻譯研究,尤其是文學(xué)翻譯研究,是不能不考慮谷翻譯過程有關(guān)的各種文化因素的。一個民族的文化地位,以及特定文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)內(nèi)翻譯文學(xué)的地位都會對譯者對翻譯文本及翻譯策略的選擇產(chǎn)生重大的影響。根據(jù)Even-Zohar,的多元系統(tǒng)假說,在強(qiáng)勢文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)內(nèi),譯者往往會采用歸化策略,而在弱勢多元系統(tǒng)內(nèi),則多采用異化翻譯策略。 在中國的三次翻譯高潮中,即從鴉片戰(zhàn)爭(1840—1842)到20世紀(jì)二、三十年代,中國譯者對翻譯文本和翻譯策略的選擇也很大程度上受到了中國文化地位的影響。晚清時期,小說成為翻譯的主體,且譯者多傾向于采用歸化的翻譯手法。而在二、三十年代,在同一個文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)內(nèi)卻出現(xiàn)了同化與異化兩種策略并存的現(xiàn)象。盡管中國的文化地位和中國譯者的翻譯策略選擇之間的關(guān)系在很大程度上也可以用多元系統(tǒng)假說來加以解釋,但某些其他的因素也不能不考慮。必須指出的是,這些現(xiàn)象并不與多元系統(tǒng)假說理論完全吻合。本文分析了中國當(dāng)時的歷史及文化狀況,并從譯者對目標(biāo)文化和翻譯文學(xué)在目標(biāo)文學(xué)多元系統(tǒng)內(nèi)的地位的主觀態(tài)度入手,解釋了這些現(xiàn)象。其實(shí)一個民族的文化地位既是一種客觀的事實(shí),,又是一種主觀的認(rèn)定。就翻譯策略的選擇而言,目標(biāo)文化在譯者心理上的主觀地位,或稱譯者的文化態(tài)度,從某種意義上講比這一文化的客觀地位更為重要。當(dāng)某一文化的客觀地位與譯者對它的主觀認(rèn)定相符合時,譯者的翻譯策略選擇便如多元系統(tǒng)假說所推論。
[Abstract]:With the rise of cultural studies, the study of literary translation from a cultural perspective has gradually formed a trend, and the role of cultural factors in translation has been paid more and more attention. Translation is a way of cultural communication. Translation studies, especially literary translation studies, must take into account various cultural factors related to the process of translation. The cultural status of a nation, as well as the position of translation literature in a particular literary pluralistic system, will have a significant impact on the translator's choice of translation texts and translation strategies. According to Even-Zohar, 's hypothesis of multiple systems, translators tend to adopt domestication strategies in strong literary systems, while dissimilation translation strategies are often adopted in weak systems. From the Opium War (1840-1842) to the 1920s and 1930s, Chinese translators' choice of translation texts and translation strategies was also greatly influenced by Chinese cultural status. In the late Qing Dynasty, novels became the main body of translation, and translators tended to adopt domesticated translation techniques. However, in the twenties and thirties, assimilation and alienation co-existed in the same literary pluralistic system. Although the relationship between Chinese cultural status and Chinese translators' choice of translation strategies can be explained to a large extent by the hypothesis of multiple systems, some other factors cannot be taken into account. It must be pointed out that these phenomena do not fully coincide with the theory of multiple systems hypothesis. This paper analyzes the historical and cultural situation of China at that time and explains these phenomena from the perspective of the translator's subjective attitude towards the position of target culture and translation literature in the pluralistic system of target literature. In fact, the cultural status of a nation is not only an objective fact, but also a subjective determination. In terms of the choice of translation strategies, the subjective position of target culture in the translator's psychology, or the translator's cultural attitude, is more important in a sense than the objective position of this culture. When the objective position of a culture is consistent with the translator's subjective judgment, the translator's choice of translation strategy is inferred from the pluralistic system hypothesis.
