【摘要】：托馬斯·金是杰出的當(dāng)代加拿大作家,他不僅在小說(shuō)方面取得重要成就,而且是加拿大廣播公司一檔滑稽無(wú)線電廣播系列節(jié)目的創(chuàng)始人。北美印第安徹羅基族人和德裔希臘人的混血血統(tǒng)造就了他的特殊身份,因此有研究者認(rèn)為他作品里的一些人物可能刻畫的就是他自身的經(jīng)歷和自身身份的探尋。 《麥迪遜河》是他的第一部重要的小說(shuō),該小說(shuō)奠定了他在加拿大文學(xué)里不容忽視的地位。這部小說(shuō)關(guān)注的主要是主人公威爾的“回家”和找尋身份的問(wèn)題。小說(shuō)《麥迪遜河》中,作者托馬斯·金通過(guò)主人公威爾在某一印第安社區(qū)中的日常生活來(lái)反映整個(gè)民族的生活現(xiàn)狀,關(guān)注的主要是與北美印第安人的社會(huì)身份,異族聯(lián)姻,社區(qū)的重要性相關(guān)的一系列問(wèn)題。 本論文主體部分分三部分論述威爾的身份困境。第一部分從主人公的身份定位,記憶中身份困境的回放和搖擺的雙重身份等方面論述了身份困境的表現(xiàn)。第二部分基于社會(huì)因素,家庭悲劇和主人公的自我認(rèn)知等方面論述了威爾的身份困境的原因。第三部分分析了作品中兩個(gè)重要的創(chuàng)作技法,包括隱喻蒙太奇和講故事的敘述方式,這兩個(gè)創(chuàng)作技法幫助深化了文章論點(diǎn)。不同于之前研究印第安人身份問(wèn)題的其他作品,本論文關(guān)注的主要是主人公威爾在兩個(gè)不同社會(huì)環(huán)境中“游走”的尷尬身份,但最終他回到了印第安社區(qū),找到了自己的身份。
